Stacked Filters

I've got a UV and a polarizer... right now they are sitting on top of each other, but when I capture I see a black ring around the image. Isn't there on the monitor -- not even there on the LCD screen.

Question - Should I keep both on together or risk the lense by taking on and off the UV?

Thanks

Re: Stacked Filters

The monitor and the LCD don't show the full frame. The capture window does. So yes, you're getting vignetting on your frame.

The whole point of someone using a UV filter for lens protection is to make sure the front element of the lens isn't exposed to danger. If you've got the polarizer on, the lens is protected. So you'd be perfectly safe to ditch the UV and go with the polarizer by itself.

Re: Stacked Filters

Or you could do a couple of simple tests and determine what is the wider you can go with both filters on.

Yeah -- I'm getting handy taking that lense box thingie off. Shouldn't be an issue swapping filters as needed.

Thanks again,

Re: Stacked Filters

Stacked filters can also cause a lowering of contrast because of internal reflections off of all those glass surfaces.

It's better to lose the UV when you're using the Pola.
