Stabilizer not working for non-Creative Movie modes

My GH1 arrived last night and I've been toying with it, going through every page of the manual, learning the functions, features, etc. It really is an awesome camera and I look forward to shooting some stuff with it today. I did find one problem though and can't figure out how to fix it.

I can't get the stabilizer function to turn on in any of the non-Creative Movie modes. In the Creative Movie Mode it automatically locks to Mode 1. When I go to any other mode the stabilize icon on the display is red. If I got into the Q.Menu and select that icon I see Mode 1 and Mode 2 and sometimes Mode 3 listed. At the bottom of that list is an empty yellow box that I can't move. In the [REC] menu STABILIZER is set to OFF. If I select STABILIZER by pressing the right arrow the box doesn't drop down anymore. I see the SET/Menu Set option at the bottom though. If I press the Menu Set button I briefly see half a large square appear on the right listing Mode 1, Mode, and Mode 3 and then it goes away without letting me choose one.

And yes the OIS switch is set to on. I even tried switching it off and removing the lens and putting the lens back on. I also tried removing the battery for a minute.

I could swear this menu option was working in both the Q.Menu and the [REC] menu before. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Mike,

That's good to know there's a fix. In retrospect, any ideas as to what might have caused it? Did you by chance remove or replace the lens while the body was powered on?

Cheers,

The OIS works in three different modes. Three different ways. Check ze Manual for explanation. Probably switched the AF setting in Menu.

The three different ways are the IS modes. It states that when "recording motion pictures" the OIS is locked to Mode 1. Nothing there would explain what the OP reported.

Cheers,

I know it does say that, but I dunno how accurate it is. When i had my JP camera I had the same issue until I figured out what the Kanji meant and was able to switch it back.

It wasn't caused by being in the wrong mode or having any particular settings.. I checked all my settings and nothing would get it working again. Reset was the only way.

All my camera settings are the same now as they were when the problem occurred, so must be some kind of bug.

I didn't remove or attach the lens while the camera was powered on, so that wasn't it either.
