The stabilization of sony hnr-nx30 is the balanced optical steadyshot. it is fantastic.

The stabilization of the cx900 is probably not as efficient and its a new camera. i don't get it why they didnt remained with the balanced optical steadyshot.

Is there a really big difference in terms of stabilization between these 2 cams?

thanks in advance,

I've got the Prosumer version of the HNR_NX30 (the HDR PJ 790) and I've got the CX 900. Both are fantastic cameras with different strengths. I believe that Sony didn't put the Balanced Optical Steadyshot in the larger chip (and bigger heavier lens) CX900 because it would just be too heavy…the Balanced Optical Steadyshot kind of floats the whole lens and sensor inside the camera like a built-in gyro stabilizer. I think the motors and gyros to do that in any camera bigger than the palmsized HNR-NX30 and the HDR PJ 790 would result in a much bigger, heavier and more expensive camera. But I have to agree with you, the Balanced Optical Steadyshot is amazing. I've been using it to shoot some aerial work and it does a wonderful job. And once you use it, you wish you had it on every camera!
