Stabilization (or the little hand)

I had a question

we were on set the other day and we were debating whether or not to put on the stabilization (or that little hand that comes on the right side of the screen) to do a steadicam shot?

I know for hand held you put the stabilization (little hand) on but for steadicam or jib do you?

I also know on tripod you leave it off

Just curious if someone can chime in here and tell me on steadicam and Jib do you put the stabilization (that is represented by that little hand) on or off?

thanks in advance

When ever you are panning, tilting or moving the camera around you want to turn OIS off as it will cause the image to stutter.

The OIS should be off for Steadicam use. It will try fix things that should not be fixed. I use it only for ENG-style handheld.... never for planned shots.

this statement is not accurate you want OIS on whever you are doing hand held to smooth out the shot in a pan a tilt etc. My question is with a steadicam do you want it on or off....I understand on sticks you do not want this because it is controlled and it will cause that stutter on a smooth pan...but is a steadicam that controlled????
