Stability for on the move shooting (NEX-VG10)

Anyone with the new Sony care to comment on it's IS (image stabilization) while using hand-held....

I moved from a traditional camcorder to a Panasonic GH1 HDSLR and while I love the image quality, depth of field and the 24p of the Micro 4/3 DSLR.... the form-factor just isn't as stable as I am use to. I admit it may be as much my style than the camera, but I am wondering if either the Sony IS is maybe better, or the form-factor helps with the stability. Either way, most of my shoots are impromptu and I usually don't have time to set up a tripod or pull out a shoulder rig, which generally are too bulky for the places I shoot.

While I do like having the option of shooting stills, the added zoom and would like to keep the 24p of the GH1, I do miss the camcorder form factor and am considering switching either to the new Sony, or a Panasonic AG-HMC40. The hardest change for me was loosing the servo zoom I am use to with a traditional camcorder as well, although the added zoom capability, even it only manual is nice and I realize that if I went with the VG10, that wouldn't change.
