HPX250: SSD with camera?

Is anyone using a SSD external HD with their camera? Seems like the 'no moving parts' would be good. I'm about to puck up something to use in the field. I have the single card reader / notebook setup already, but also want to have the hard drive setup.

The 250gig SSD art at a reasonable price point and thats what I'm looking at.

Exarly P2 cards used RAID0 to get sufficient bandwidth for DVCProHD (initially), not for redundancy and data protection.

I see the logic of using an SSD instead of a traditional hard drive for USB off-loading using the camera.
 
Then you should check out this thread (almost the last page), SSD is fine but you need a good one. I would myself just get another P2, but if you are shooting allot of footage on the fly and must offload then the thread is your best choice I think.
 
SSD is fine, but price to capacity ratio & reliability are not ripe yet. Do a slow but necessary sector verification every 3-6 months to make sure no bad memory blocks exist on SSD. CF cards are known to go bad every once a one. I used to backup directly fr P2 to 64 Gb CF cards and was a big mistake of NOT turning on VERIFICATION. The HPX250 sometimes like certain CF brand and others just resulted in error. It a hit or miss. Traditional 2.5" hdd seems to work better than CF cards when copying P2 cards. Have yet to do extensive field test w/ SSDs. When price is $200 for a 750 Gb, I'll jump into it.

Both P2 cards and SSD drives employ raid 0 controllers to store data to solid state memory. P2 is more rugged and reliable, while more expensive. Some SSD drives employ lossless compression which may not be efficient for video (Sandforce controllers). I do record to a sound devices PIX 240 (SSD media) on occasion, but only for recording directly to an Avid codec.... and I always use P2 as backup.
 
Terry do you see a difference in the image recorded on the PIX 240 from the image recored on the P2 also are you using AVC intra?
 
I can see some improvement using the PIX240 on AVCHD cameras, but there is not much difference from the P2 AVC intra 100, at least for the event video I shoot. Given the HPX 250, you don't really need a PIX240. I find shooting directly to an Avid codec useful for post processing, and as backup. Typically I pair the Pix240 with a HMC150 on a tripod, and run and gun with the HPX250.
