Squib kit looks great, anyone reverse engineer it?

I just googled this site up
http://www.bullethit.com/

it seems to be a new site, i have never seen it before. it looks quite good, but then you go to the shop page and you see:
  1. it's $60.
  2. it's only for film production companies.
now I might be able to squeeze out sixty bucks but I'm not working for a production company! So it seems difficult to get my hands on this kit. Plus shipping it Down Under could cost me another $60.

so being an uni engineering student, I'm thinking of ways to reverse engineer this <__< yeah, basically the tiny images show some kinda plastic caps and the description mentioned that they hook to some sort of coke bottle with a suitable adaptor (btw does anyone know any adaptors that can screw onto coke bottles?) there's also something that looks like the squeeze/spray head for window cleaning solution bottles, which to me looks like the trigger to be attached somewhere between the tube and the bottle.

but taking a step back it looks really similar to indymogul's method but this one somehow looks more mobile (portable) and easier to put together.

so basically if you can input any ideas into the follow would be nice:
  1. that while plastic "nozzle"
  2. the red/pink "cut adhesive blocks"
  3. any cheap adaptors for tube <-> coke bottle heads?
  4. how to pressurise the bottles with these attachments

60 bucks? I got to see it first, but if it works as promised, well worth the money.

No offense Qugeist, but the tools in our craft are usually astronomically expensive, and if this guy's system works, I would not cheat him out of his modest fee. And I sure wouldn't be asking others to help you do it.

Look at it this way, since you are an engineering student, you design the perfect whatever, it's yours. But you decide to offer it to the world so people can afford it, and you make a little money. Then some kid sees it on the net and wants to take/steal your idea, reverse engineer it and is asking others to help him do it so he doesn't have to pay you that small fee. It is already affordable (almost free, by film equipment standards) save up and buy it, or just come up with your own idea so others can steal it from you.

And, chances are, using the ready-made kit would be safer and more reliable.

yeah guys, the problem is that it's not available for everyone -- if it were I would've gotten it strait away :P
it's not that I want to rip him off or anything.

so how strict is this policy? why not just call yourself "qugeist productions" and see if that flies?

lol, that's a flippin' good idea  but I dunno how much it'll cost for it to be shipped to Australia (I moved to 3 different continents this year so far -- but that's another story). And i'm not putting my money on the table before I see the actual footage of how this will look ;) (the video link on their site is still under construction).

so at the moment I'm more interested in how this kit works than buying it...

Find out. Form a production company, find out what it takes to have the business license, etc. Be legit. What harm will that be? If you want to do this as more than just as a hobby or fun, you will have to go that route eventually, if you want to be taken seriously. So why not start to do it now?

But if you want to do it as fun or just as a hobby, there is nothing wrong with that either. Just don't expect to be held on the same standard as those that have jumped through the legal hoops. And I admire that this guy has that as a requirement to purchase his equipment. Shows me he if not in it for just the money. He wants to help out film-makers willing to make the effort and be serious about what they do and their goals for the same.

Why not ask him for the clip? But the last thing you just said, still says "I don't want to pay for it, just give me your secrets, and I'll build it myself". I hope this guy is actually a member here and sees this.

yeah i'll sure do that but i dont meant what you might have interpreted... chillax there :P i just want to see whether this thing works like how it's claimed, if it does, great! then i'll be keener than ever to get this thing. if this thing doesn't turn out to be great or i am just not eligible to get it then i obviously have to make another plan.

The videos are down on the site. Sounds pretty awesome, though. I think indie flicks without an effects team should NEVER be using actual (explosive) squibs anyway (even if you can get your hands on them). This is safer for everyone and the effect is identical.

Im a upcoming fx artist, I cannot see how this kit is anywhere close to being professional or worth the money. Its a squirt bottle with long tubing, The garden pump works 10 times better. If anyone buys the kit please post a video, I cant see how its worth it.

I was super interested by this. I have an action movie coming into production within the next few months and this would be perfect. So I went on the site and sent the guy an email. (ended the email with my "Production Companies" name.) haha. But I just asked for some footage of this thing. As soon as I get a reply I will let you guys know what I think.
And I agree with the Doc on this. 60 bucks is a bargain if this thing is effective.
