Squeezing on the HVX

Can I use the squeeze mode on the HVX (480i 30p) without the anomorphic lens adapter or will it distort the image beyond fixing. OR can the distortion be corrected in FCP? FCP will then un-sqeeze to 16x9 ??? Is it worth it?

SQUEEZE mode is the standard anamorphic DV recording format, you do not need a lens adapter, and any NLE can handle it. Don't think of it as distortion, think of it as using pixels that are a little bit wider than they are tall. There is no need to undo the distortion.

If I were to shoot DV with the HVX, I would ALWAYS use SQUEEZE mode.

Well, never completely understood this.
If I want to shoot 16/9, but RELEASE is PAL broadcast (no blow up to film, no web, ONLY 4/3 PAL), then Isn't theoretically better directly shoot in 4/3 letterboxed on a DVX then shooting DV squeeze with an HVX?

Intentionally not talking about dvcpro50 advantages.
Just asking myself if there's a plus in 16/9 native chip cameras (regardless of recording format) when you want 16/9 ratio, but there's a normal 4/3 TV at the end

Well, perhaps yes. Better still might be to shoot letterbox on the HVX depending on if you're going to take advantage of DVCPRO50. But if it's straight interlaced 4:3 letterbox, the DVX will do as well as the HVX and in some ways better.
