Squeezed mode vs Letterbox .

I have a brand new DVX100AE and I was testing the squeezed mode against letterbox.

I did some checks after with Premiere. My wish is to have a final DVD where you can see it in 4:3 TV sets (with black strips) or in 16:9 TV's (then full screen).

But the only way I reach this is shooting in letterbox. If I shoot in squeezed, and I open a new project 16:9 in Premiere, then no problem with the DVD in 16:9 TV's, but on 4:3 the video appears squeezed. Am I doing something wrong ? Is a matter of pixel aspect ratio ? Please let me know.

The easiest way is use letterbox and Premiere setup to 4:3 screen, then works always fine, but I would like ti use the extra definition gicen by squeeze mode. Thanks a lot, guys.

if you use sqeeze mode, it stretches the letterbox video to 16:9 so of course its going to be squeezed on looking at it in 4:3 you need to letterbox your footage into the 4:3 window.. basically the camera shot letterbox, and cropped and sterched it for you, and you need to shrink back into a 4:3 window back to letterbox.

To do what you want, you want to shoot in "squeeze" mode. If you author the DVD properly, telling it that it's receiving 16:9 data, then the DVD player itself will understand and interpret the video properly. It'll play full-screen on a 16:9 TV, and the DVD player will automatically resize and letterbox the video for a 4:3 TV.

Hey, you got problems... I had to move from Florida to Colorado and I still have the pleasure of fixing computers over the phone, remote assistance, pcanywhere, email... To top it off, one of my new phone numbers here was last used by "computer magician" or something like that, and I get a couple call a week by people almost crying "my computer won't foot up, whats wrong" ;D
