Squeeze mode...

I just posted this question in another thread but I can't find the thread so I am posting again! I should have just posted in my own thread from the get go! LOL! Anyway with the newer DVX cameras out that have squeeze mode and native 16:9 is using an anamorphic lens still needed. I have the original DVX100.

The squeeze mode in the A and B models will produce a 16:9 image, but it won't give you as much resolution as the anamorphic will give you. So it's a matter of how important the extra resolution is to you.

If you got Barry's dvd, he shows you the difference in resolution. It's pretty miniscule to the eye, unless of course you're watching it on a large screen.

Hey Horse,
what do you use to unstretch the image while you're shooting? Or do you just go by your eye?

I haven't tried squeeze mode yet, but if you frame the fat, squeezed, image correctly, will it stretch out, with everything framed correctly???
If that makes any sense!

I go by eye, man. Play around with it. I really like it. Just frame it like you normally would. The top of the frame will still be the top of the frame after you stretch it out in post. When you're shooting, everything looks really skinny, but that's really the only difference.

Not to be picky but I don't want any other DVXusers that may not know better to get confused. You mentioned DVXShooter that the new DVX100s have the squeeze mode and native 16:9. They are native 4:3 but with letterbox bars or squeezing of a 4:3 frame with the top and bottom of the image cut off. So that's why you get better resolution with the anamorphic lens.

No offense please. Just thought I'd make the correction/clarification.

Best regards,

Andrew Hoffman
