Squeeze mode

I will be filming an event soon using my DVX100b and two other cameras that aren't mine, but have a native 16:9 chip, some old Canon XL I think (going off visual memory, of course they didn't care to tell me the model). An anamorphic adapter is out of the question, so I think I may have to use squeeze mode. If I use this setting, would the footage be compatible/similar to native 16:9 footage (ignoring quality reduction)?

Thanks a bunch!

Squeeze mode cuts off the bottom and top of the screen and then digitally "stretches" the image vertically, resulting in 16x9 widescreen footage. Interestingly, when in progressive mode, squeeze will give you images that are as hi-res as interlaced native 16x9 cams. But yes, 16x9 is 16x9.
