that ladder looks like it holds the crane great, ted...I am going to try that.
Yeah, the ladder does a great job. At first, I used some heavy steel to "sandwich" the ladder rungs but the steel plates were not wide enough for the job. The crane swayed a bit. So, I cut up some 3/4" ply and used that. Works MUCH better.

btw, the crane is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! I love playing with it! Low sweeping shots.... High panning shots.... High to low panning shots.... Slow creeping craning shots... It is fun!

I even put my silly (but good enough) "fluid-like" head on the crane so I could do some compound moves. Sweeeeeeet! I can't wait for my real head to arrive. (This Saturday I am receiving a Bogen 3191, 3066, 3067 set-up that I grabed off of Craigslist.)

Woo Hoo!!!

Very nice Ted, I will be very interested in hearing your thoughts on the 3191 sticks. I am close to ordering a pair with a 519 head. (if so I will be selling my 516) Does the crane require a 100mm bowl? What does the crane weigh both with nothing on it and fully loaded? Finally, what are you using there for a monitor?
Hey Jim,

I can tell you that I am going to love the 3191 sticks except for the heavy weight of them. (They weigh like 17 lbs!)

I am not certain about the crane "needing" a 100mm bowl but I imagine the bigger the better!

And I may be interested in your 516 if I don't care for this 3066.

The crane itself is VERY LIGHT! Sturdy but light. I was quite amazed. I will weigh it for you once I get done playing with it. (speaking of which, I need to get off this computer so I can do that!!!)

Finally, don't laugh, but the monitor is a simple, cheap 8" portable dvd player. I figure that I won't use it for critical focus or color... just framing.

Hey I've been pretty good...thanks for asking. Howbout yourself? Ive been filming as usual... nothing really worth showing though. But anyway....i'm definately looking forward to this. It looks like your putting alot into it.
Well, we'll see.

I've been well. Busy as heck working the paying jobs and not getting much filming done! Trying to find that balance.

Send some links to your stuff sometime... even if you're lookng for feedback on something.

Be well!

Are you done yet? :) Kidding. Hope it's going well. Looking forward to seeing your new equipment in action this go 'round Ted.

Later,
Jason

Thanks Jason! and HAHA! I do have a shoot this Saturday from 7:30am to about noon. Anyone interested in coming up? It's not suppose to snow!

Lol. I was just digging on your cop video. You kill me, Ted. I could totally see what was going on in your head... sitting there looking at the camera "This is gonna be a great BTS to put on DVXuser"...

Good stuff.
Jason

EXCELLENT NEWS!!!!!

Jim (bosindy) will be on set Saturday morning!!! Woo Hoo!!! Thanks Jim!

(Jason, sorry I can't fly you in... maybe one day! :) )

Hey Ted, LOVE the Glidecam set up ... I don't think I've ever seen ANYONE else make such great use of a ladder in their production equipment as you do!

Downloading the cop video now, looking forward to watching it!

I would love to come out there but I'm heading to the Road Island School of Design this weekend for my daughter to check out.
I have 3193 sticks and a 510 head Jim.

Aram, it just won't seem right without you! Who else is going to drive Jim nuts? (oh, wait.... I can probably do that! )

If anything changes... like, if Rhode Island closes up for the weekend, let me know. I would love to see you again!

As David Lee Roth said of Van Halen, the next time the three of us get together I am bringing a lawyer and a valium. Just kidding, no one drove me nuts but myself at the 16th hour of shooting. (and of course the camera rental guy)

No problem bringing the wireless Ted, I'll grab both sets just in case. Will there be "refreshments" afterwards?

Yeah, I just picked up 14 half slabs and stuck them in the freezer. I will pull some out on Friday morning, give them a rub down Friday night and bbq them for you on Sat! (we just have to make sure not to get bbq sauce on our keyboards!!!)

Some very cool news just happened for me.... I have been asked to light Hillary Clinton on Friday! Not that I am a huge fan but it is just very cool.

I will be actually lighting her twice as she has two separate press thingys happening in two different parts of the state. (Yep. Just gotta love being one of the first in the nation states! We've had Hillary and Obama here regularly.)

A buddy of mine has being doing many of the sound gigs for the Democratic party and Hillary's manager (or something) wants "something more special" for Hillary than they've been getting. So my buddy (Dean) said that they should hire me!

Very cool!

Just thought that I would share...

Now back to discussions on filmmaking!

>>>>>>>>>>>>> UPDATE >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

damn... Hillary's baggin' on me!

Turns out that the guy that does all of Hillary's advances had a couple of "teams" on standby to do this. (This all happened last minute so I guess he had a bunch of calls out.) He called my buddy and regretfully announced that one of the other teams called to confirm the booking.

But he did say that he would use us in the future. We'll see.
