Spy Master

MARK! Good to see ya around. Good luck getting through that workload!

Ya, it was a brutal couple of months! It's great to be back on the board. I have had the pleasure of occasional beers/glasses of wine with Blaine and Slimothy but have pretty much been in hermit mode. Really glad to see you all are still cranking the shorts out. I'm sure Ted will blow us all away with his opus.

OMG! Mark Johnson! I knew a Mark Johnson once. Great guy. Is this the SAME Mark Johnson???? hee hee hee

Mark man, Great to hear your "voice." Seems like years ago. California sounds good man... you just don't know! When are we going to make that Robot and Women in Lingerie flick???

Appreciate your confidence in Spy Master.... though I don't think I "blow anyone away!" I think people will enjoy it but Matt and Mark's Sleeper is the one to keep an eye out for! That and Charli/Elton have a promising project. And of course there is John (Cinealma).... okay, I better stop. There are a LOT of good looking films happening here.

I just hope that I can hold my own!

Anyway, Great to see you on the boards! Let's talk soon.

How are things going Ted?
Things are going well, Matt. Thanks for asking. I spent the day storyboarding (on FrameForge) for tomorrow's shoot. I am SO EXCITED to use my new gear!!!

I'd love to share some of the storyboards but they give away too much of the story!

Time to get some rest! I have a HUGE day tomorrow. Jim (bosindy) is coming up to assist, learn some FCP and eat some RIBS!

Oh! One last thing...

I just put up a listing on Craigslist for my services to shoot music videos for wannabee contestants for the next American Idol contest (search for the next Great American Band). And I am happy to say that I got my first hiring!

I am telling you this because I think it is a GREAT idea for anyone (like me) who is trying to earn a few bucks (to pay for the gear), get some work/experience and make music videos!

I am being extremely generous in my fee because I know that most people aren't going to pay an arm and a leg for the service. But if I can do their video in 2 days (which I plan on), the money is not too bad.

I will post a link to the ad if anyone wants to try something similar. (If you live in Boston... (Jim!)... I am going to ask that you not steal my idea! But if you are outside the area... please, run with it if you like! Please feel free to share your ideas for advertising if you do. I'd like to really get some gigs out of this! And if I get enough, I will share the wealth with the Boston market!

Here's the link..... I haven't added pix to it yet because all of my shots involve ladders! I am going to take some new shots in action with my new gear and post them soon. Plus I am updating my website to show off my work.

Good luck to everyone.

Happy shooting/editing/compressing... whatever stage you are on!

Ted, that is a great idea. Also, it would be great for bands for hire that have websites to explain a little about themselves, show their repetoire, etc. A music video would be a really cool feature. I like it. I am actually in the process of doing our website for my band and now you have me thinking.....hmm.

I have a similar spreader dolly, its not as smooth as you would think unless its on a nice smooth carpet. I got some nice moves doing a medical video because they had the smoothest carpet. Other than that, it feels every little bump in the road.

Jim just left the house!

We had a good day of shooting. I would like to have gotten more in the can but it was good none-the-less. I feel that we have at least one "money" shot that I just love.

Very exhausted. Arik and Audrey (actors) showed up for a 7:30am call. Jim arrived at 8:30am. We wrapped Audrey at 12:05pm and shot Arik and my cameo. (woo hoo! Jim earned his 2nd unit DP title!!!) At 4:30, we wrapped for the day and packed. I don't know where the comment came from but I uttered, "Boy.... making a film is like going to the beach!" Jim howled! He got exactly what I was saying. He even followed with, "Yeah... you have fun all day and then you have to pack and you've got sand everywhere..." It was so true. Not that we had sand everywhere, but just that "chore" of gently packing everything up and yet just wanting to be done and home (with a beer!). Anyone else every feel this way?

Anyway, Arik and Jim follow me around the block to my house and I prepare a few racks of ribs for all. We start downloading footage, swigging beer, telling stories. My wife joins us and we watch films and ate ribs, baked beans, corn on the cob, fries and corn bread.... it was a good night. It was a good day.

I'll post a few pix tomorrow... Off to bed.

Jim, thanks again for coming up! Hope you get home safe and sound.

Yeah, other than coming within 1 foot of losing my life, I had a blast. There was a little confusion as to whether "R" meant the car was in drive. Fun little film Ted is putting together, I am looking forward to seeing it.

Great ribs and great hospitality. Ted screened a film he starred in in the nineties. The film had an environmentalist message with a polygamy bent. Good stuff.

Thanks Ted, I had great time.

Ted, I totally understand. Now, imagine going to the beach to shoot a film! When I finished packing up my gear, there was still more packing to do, AND I had sand everywhere. :)
Anyway, glad you had a good shoot.

Thanks AmyO! I tell you, I will NEVER volunteer to shoot at the beach! I love the beach but sand is such a killer! I just can't even imagine having my gear out in that environment.

Jimbo! Thanks man! Good time yesterday! And yeah, that "incident" bears telling! I'll work on a presentation! :)

I just went nextdoor and kicked my neighbor's ass. Then I showed him your post and asked him why can't he be more like you.

Wait...

*sniff, sniff*

Hey! I think I smell his BBQ firing up. Back later!

haha! Well, have a look at this.....

Yeah, that food coma didn't help my ride back to Boston. I should have grabbed a doggy bag. Working that jib was alot of fun. I think we got a few really good ones.

I am looking forward to the presentation of the "incident." The camera was recording so I can imagine what that might be. I wonder if the footage will do it justice.

Hey Jim! The footage looks great! I am very pleased! Wow... thank goodness for Charli's VIDLEDs! Such difference when we used them compared to when we didn't!

Started cutting the stuff we did yesterday... it's working!

As for the incident... the footage just doesn't do it justice. One of those you had to be there moments. But before I go any farther... let me stop editing the "real" footage and look at the "Incident."

(sorry about the "tough" drive home!)

Hey B-man! Thanks!

Yes, AmyO.... that's a two-cam jib!

Jim.... here is the "incident" link....

Anyone interested... it's a short 20 second clip (under 5mb).

But the BIG NEWS....

The Red Sox just scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th to WIN THE GAME!!! They were down by 5 runs and battled to win!!!

Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Mother's Day to all you Mothers!!! :)

you can see my reflection in the van. If you look close you can see me putting my hands on my knees ready to go into the fetal position. Neil, we had the camera on a crane and I was standing behind it ready to jib up when the car should have been gunning it AWAY from camera. No harm no foul but it was about a foot from launching me and the equipment.

wow.. that would get your heart rate going!! what tripod is that Theodore?
Hey Neil, that is the Bogen 3191. I love it!!! So sturdy and not as heavy as I thought it would be... though I wouldn't want to carry for long!

I got the sticks, the head (3066) and dolly (3067) from a guy in CA on Craigslist. Sweet deal.

The crane is a Glidecam Camcrane 100 that I got on ebay for another sweet deal.

And yeah... I told everyone to stop for a few minutes and chill. All of us had a pretty strong heart rate after that!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Jim! That is funny.... I can totally see you walk over and place your hands on your knees in that reflection!!!

Great stuff.
