Spread the word... we want an ML for the FS cameras.

EOSHD has today reported that the Canon 50D, a camera which came out BEFORE the 5D and was marketed and sold without filming capabilities, is able to record raw just like the 5D.

While this of course says a lot of about Canons will to deliver the full capabilities of their tech or don't know what it's capable off, it also tells me that quality video / filming is only a software step away. It tells me that semi-pro cams like the FS100 and FS700 are probably capable of way more than we are lead to believe.

Therefore start spreading the word that we need a new Magic Lantern team that can start looking at the FS series cameras and unlock their true potentiel.
Imagine shooting raw with either the FS100 and 700.... that would make them both very very able cameras!

I refuse to believe that it is not possible to record raw with the FS100 when a still camera from 2007/08 is capable of doing just that!

http://www.nex-hack.info/ has been going on for many months already but it seems to have been stagnant, and in any case more interested in the NEX still cameras.

If we all put some money down we could buy them a used FS100 easily.

Word. We need ML for FS100 and I want to pay/contibute for that. And not vulture.

FS100 is a diferent story than the 5D for a few things.
It has no RAW anywhere in the programming I guess. (the canons and panny's have raw photo already). Don't know if it matters but I think that makes adding RAW more difficult.
FS100 have sd cards, but the hdmi might be capable of 10/12 bit????? A higher bitrate would be good to, but since it has a avchd codec it might not be more than 8 bit.
Hope we can go the BMCCP way on the SD.

I'm learning pure C to see how difficult it is in basic. And to see how much work it is. Hope I can help after my lessons, but that might be to complex for me.

I want to donate but want more info on the progress. How quick can it go? Because in 2 years you can buy a cheap good RAW camera with xlr and high lightsensitivity.
I understand only the software code is open now.
But can they apply chances and transport it to the camera?
Is the code for the FS100 also open?

I would pay $500+ for only an 50mb codex or higher.

I'd love to see this happen but I've had my ear to the ground and beyond the site above, I haven't heard of anyone making a concerted effort to hack the FS100.

"It tells me that semi-pro cams like the FS100 and FS700 are probably capable of way more than we are lead to believe."

Yep. But it would be hard for Sony to sell their top of the line if we could game almost the same quality with a camera 5 times cheaper.
Two words: profit + marketing.

@Novoluc... yeah, but that is Sony's problem not mine. Just like I don't give a hoot what Canon thinks about the current ML version.... if it's available, I'll use it (when the workflow gets sensible ;) )

@Dingo, but how much is the Odyssey? We are getting FREE 14 bit raw from Canon right now. Slow... meh, shot specific or 60fps is fine for me.

Yes, but this all comes from a clever exploit that the Magic Lantern team created. As far as I know there is no Magic Lantern equivalent for any other brand of camera.

We have nice hacks for the GH2 cameras, but these hacks don't introduce any new features, they are essentially very effective tweaks to the original Panasonic code.

I think the best you can expect from hacked Sony cameras will be like the GH2 hacks, where firmware tweaks will enable higher bit-rate recording but they won't be able to introduce new features.

For paid production work the Odyssey looks like a steal, where you will be able to buy a 2K/4K 12-bit RAW camera with frame rates up to 240 fps for roughly $10K. ( FS700 + Sony 4K firmware + Odyssey ) Using SSD drives the FS700 Odyssey workflow should be a dream.
