SPOT mode... gradually closes shutter?

I was doing some testing today with my HVX in a situation where I need autoexposure... and was trying to use the SPOT (spotlight) mode. I', pretty sure I've used it successfully before... but now, whenever I engage SPOT mode, the shutter very slowly just closes down until it reaches F14. That is, I push the user button, "SPOT" appears in the viewfinder, and then, every five seconds or so the iris drops a stop. This was independent of the light situation... the same thing happened under real spotlight conditions as well as in very low-light conditions where an OPEN iris was severely underexposed.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior?
