Sports Illustrated- HS Player of the Week

I shot this mid-December, broke my collarbone mountain biking after Christmas, then edited it in January two days after surgery with 1 and a half hands...

Shot with Canon 24-70 f/2.8L with Kipon and Tokina 11-17 f/2.8

I was pleased how the overcranked handheld on the Tokina almost looks like a stabilizer.

This is one of the more run and gun shoots I've done with the AF, and it was a challenge.
The wind was gusting 15-20 and clouds were racing across the late afternoon sky resulting in constantly changing light.
I was changing NDs nonstop, shooting a a mix of handheld and tripod.

Also the shoot date had been changed 4 times, and I ended up shooting it the day before they left for State Championships.
Lets just say their focus was not on the camera guy... but I eventually got what I needed.
It was especially hard to get the featured player off to the side for setup shots- he wanted to be practicing on the field.
The team was favored to win State Championships, but lost.

The featured player, #1 recruited cornerback in the country Tracy Howard, is a great kid- I wish him luck.
If you have a fave college (especially SEC, USC, FSU or UM), you'll be hoping he gets recruited by your team...

Love the style of the shoot and edit! We do piece like this weekly, and I just took a bunch of notes :) Great work.

Work with the largest charter school in the country, and we do profile pieces on our students for the weekly school-wide news show. You can see some of our older projects at ecotohio.org. The ECOT stuff is mostly done on a EX1R, but we're getting a T3i to tinker with. Also do fly fishing films, and typical corporate work, and that's all done on my AF.

Very nice work Chuck. I can really appreciate the light issues you had with the clouds blowing by. Nice work and very well put together. The edit sails right through and everything looks really clean.
