i use speed edit, but im sure most NLE are similar in this regard....how do i send the mono track down the center so it plays left and right

I may be oversimplifying this, but if it were me I'd copy and paste to a new track... first track is left channel, second is right channel.

In Vegas I'm pretty sure that a single mono track would already play out both sides equally? No?

In Final Cut, you just set the pan value to 0.

And most other NLEs should have a similar feature.

But if, for some odd reason, Speed Edit cannot do this... a stereo file editor like BIAS Peak can create a stereo file from a mono file.

It's not stereo it's just two track mono.

My guess is that the OP used a mic plugged into one channel of a camera... or maybe has a cam with a mini-in... which in many cams will put the audio on only one track... then put it in an NLE and only has left channel audio... something basic like that... since we're all dancing around a simple issue.

I sincerely hope that nobody here thinks a mono recording can become genuine stereo... (although I'm sure somebody *ahem* could)

What's all this fuss I keep hearing... You audio guys drive me crazy. OF COURSE we know it's not stereo since I can't buy it on CD...

huh...what's that? Oh...

Nevermind....

Yes, it's dual mono. But in BIAS Peak, the terms they use for pasting a one-track, monaural clip into a new, two-track file include "create stereo document."

And even in ProTools, when bouncing a monaural mix out to a two-track document? One selection is "Stereo Interleaved."

So I was speaking in terms of the DAW commands.

the material was recorded on my fostex fr2 le....which records mono...
I'll try setting the pan to 0

How would cutting and pasting change what side the audio was coming from? Ill have two tracks coming from the same side....or am i missing something
