Splitting L & R Audio Channel?

I am going insane. I have not used Premiere in a really long time and now I have to use it for work...

I shot an interview on my DVX with one channel for a lav and another channel for my shotgun. I captured in Premiere and add the clips to the timeline. When I play it, I can remove my right headphone from my ear and hear the crystal clear lav mic audio, and I can also remove the left headphone from my ear and hear my shotgun mic audio (which has a lot of background noise).

In the timeline, both channels are combined into one audio track.
I would like to get rid of the shot gun channel and duplicate the lav mic channel and then have it replace the shotgun channel.

In Vegas, I could just pan the audio track to the side of the lav mic, then copy and paste that track directly underneath the original and pan it the other way, making the same track come out of both the L & R speakers.

Is there an easy way to do this in Premiere? I am messing with the fill right and left filters and it just seems like its taking both channels, merging them, and making them play from both channels, which sounds bad.

Thanks
Steven

I am on a Macintosh, which makes this even more difficult. I can't even get a clean uncompressed export out of Premiere on here!

Fill Left or Right, then apply a balance effect. Or, you can see if using just the balance from the audio mixer is good enough for your needs.

I wish Premiere had a better way to way to convert a stereo track to mono, with your choice of source channel(s).

Audio isn't a strong point for this program.

You should split the stereo into two mono tracks. than you can decide with which one you want to do your audio editing.

Clip>Audio Options>Source Channel Mappings.

(And in Vegas, you don't have to pan; just right-click on the audio, then Channels>Left Only or Right Only.)
