Split Screen-- U.S. Camera

Hey Guys!

I just got my camera today! I'm testing it out right now. I looked for split screen at my dealer in Kansas City. Everything there looked fine, and he assured that the split screen problem was taken care of for all new batches to the US. Fifteen minutes ago, I found out that this does not seem to be the situation . . .

It looks like what riles up the split screen in my camera is the Cine settings. Specifically, the split screen came up noticeable when I turned the "Cinelike" function on, under "Advanced Process." I shouldn't have done that . . .

. . . I saw it, but I didn't panic, because I have had a dozen other problems to deal with today. It seems that is what triggers the split screen thus far, under a gain of -9 dB.

Besides that, I think that if I can avoid that friggin' Cinelike function, who knows. It may very well come up later on as I continue working with the camera. Anyways, that's all for now. I'll try my best to post some footage if I can.

Hey goldyprog, while you're testing, can I ask you to run a simple test? Put the cam in HDV30p mode and then select the slowest shutter speed possible, and then pan from some light-colored object past a dark object. Can you let me know if you see anything unusual happening on the screen? Test it hooked up to an HD monitor, I doubt you'll see the issue if you just look for it on the cam's LCD. I need to know if I've got yet another defect with my cam, or if they all do it...

Just tried it. This may sound weird, but I don't have an HD monitor . . . yet. The only reason I got the camera before a monitor is because I have to start principal photography for my film.

Anyways, I found approx. 2/3 second delay from the bright image (a bright, tungsten-lit wall) to a dark painting. Even though this can be attributed to the shutter speed, I'll try looking at it more, and try importing some footage to my computer. I can't justify from this that I cannot have the same problem you are having, so I am going to test for this a lot more. could not find anything unusual on the LCD. Maybe it's the objects I'm choosing. If you want me to test against specific objects, let me know and I can definitely give it a shot.

I will try the same thing on my GL2, which is the only other camera I have access to right now. I'll for sure keep you and anyone else reading posted (I'm using the stock lens).

Also, I have noticed a whitish smearing on one of the sections on the top part of the LCD. Looking through the eyepiece and a tv monitor, I did not notice that happening on either of the two. I'll look for that again (it only happened once, and then disappeared after a few minutes. this happened when I tilted the camera with a tungsten light near the center of the frame)

Another thing I'm noticing is the randomness of when a split screen occurs. It will appear, then disappear seconds later, especially when using the manual zoom ring on the stock lens. Are you experiencing this with your camera, Barry?
