Spielberg filming Munich, wise decision?

Sad but true. And this isn't a Palestine/Jewish issue either; it is simply a mattter of targeting innocent persons; women and children for christs sake; for a cause. That isn't a cause nor is it a casualty of war; it's cowardice and most definately continues to alienate the civilized from understanding.

This is n ot a finger pointed at Palestine. It's pointed at any terrorist organization or act anywhere.

(This is a long post, sorry, but as a request if you choose to start reading it please read the whole thing. I’m breaking my own “rules of posting here”, I avoid these sorts of topics completely)

I really, really, really, really, don't want to start a debate but at some point in history all countries or elements within all countries legal or illegal have done insanely regrettable things...

"On July 22, 1946, members of the Jewish underground military organization Irgun Tsvai-Leumi in the British Mandate of Palestine exploded a bomb at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem. The hotel was the base for the British Secretariat, the military command and a branch of the Criminal Investigation Division (police). 91 people were killed, most of them civilians: 28 British, 41 Arab, 17 Jewish, and 5 other. Around 45 people were injured."

This attack has a great deal of gray area, I'm not an expert, I'm not from the region, and I have no judgment except for the obvious one than innocent people die. And consider the year, how does any group of people react after facing near genocide? How would I? Hopefully we'll never know but there is a VAST leap to sit in judgment.

In 1946 the leader of Irgun was Menachem Begin, in 1977 Menachem Begin became the Prime Minister of Israel. The PLO, obviously a known terrorist group, their leader Yasser Arafat becomes the leader of the Palestinian "Authority", yes we can't say "State" because there isn't one yet. So in a since, the end justified the means??? That’s part of the “problem” when extremist see this imo.

I've always considered the Israeli/Palestinian conflict in much the same way I viewed the Irish/Catholic/Protestant/British conflict in that the overwhelming majority of the violence was contained in the contested region and has a different and specific dynamic relative to each of the conflicting causes. These conflicts are often exploited by other international extremist in order to justify their own actions. (bin Laden)

So, I distinguish the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, the Irish/Catholic/Protestant/British conflict and the current international terrorist conflict completely. When you view the entire history of the regions involved, who started what? Who crossed the line first?

My only reaction and perspective to terrorism is very simple, personal and somewhat nationalistic. Someone kills us, I want with every fiber in my being for them to die (9/11). They say they want the destruction of my country? I want every resource we have to come down on them and destroy them. No regrets, period.

Now the next layer of that is the layer that should bother me and/or any normal human being. Innocent people will die, there will be collateral damage. My want and/or perceived need to kill the threat will cost innocent lives and it doesn't bother me (because I can't allow it). When I read a report of a bombed out home where known threats were harbored and there has been “collateral damage” my first reaction is "well you shouldn't have let these people in, they in effect killed you, we didn't" and/or "you killed yourself, you live with a known bomb maker, then you're in the game". That’s callas as hell but that’s the way it is.

With that in mind, at the end of the day, someone out there could justifiably view me as a soulless bastard and a potential threat and so the cycle continues. The point relative to the Munich murders is judgment becomes gray. Everyone knows that at that point in the history of the conflict both sides have suffered civilian casualties and both sides have justified themselves to themselves for themselves. As a father, brother, son, husband, friend how would I react after burying a relative or two relatives or a dozen neighbors? From an Israeli or Palestinian viewpoint?

Now if you’ve read this and you think I’m in any way justifying terrorism or killing innocent people then you’ve missed the point completely. I’m an American living in the 21rst century, not invaded, no perception of being invaded, not oppressed. My only stance on terrorism is that we’ve had thousands killed and I’d like for everyone responsible to die, I don’t care why they did it, just die.

So the moral dilemma, I feel the way I do and the 40 year Afghan woman that buried her husband and 6 children on Oct 22, 2004 after an accidental bombing is obviously ripped apart.

I wouldn’t blame her at all for wanting to put a bullet in my head but it changes nothing, I still support the destruction of all of those involved in 9/11 and will continue to support it even at the cost of civilian lives and again don’t fool yourself for a moment, with the amount of force being used it’s going to happen and I still support it. I wouldn’t blame anyone at all in opposition to my stance for thinking of me horribly and it doesn’t bother me one bit (it can't). So we’re all players now either morally or physically. Someone reading this could get offended and extrapolate that I somehow support killing innocent people, I don’t, I support whatever force and action needed to prevent another threat to me, my family or my country from festering unimpeded. So it’s cake and eat it too, so be it.

There’s a local gang war here that’s gone on for 18 months and 7 or 8 people have been killed, one child was killed in a cross fire while playing in his yard, there were 2 additional murders related to the war after that so that child’s death didn’t cool it. The cops have a few of the players involved and the last report was no one knows what started it but it got into the you-hit-us-we-hit-you cycle. That’s a micro of this macro of Munich and the aftermath imo.

Wow, that was kind of therapeutic. This is obviously an open board so obviously it’s international, I mean no offence at all to anyone, this is just my point of view.

(Hey mods if this post is too whatever obviously dump it, I don’t want to start a flame here)

I wonder if he will follow the story to the end.

According to the documentary I saw, the Israeli's actually tracked down the terrorists who were freed and had them executed.

Chris

They did, except for one guy who is still living in Africa somewhere.

He is making the movie to redeem himself from the garbage call WOTW. He is now doing something he wants.

The idea of peace eludes us all.

Le's think about that; peace. Is it so hard?

Yes it is hard. It's extremely hard. Harder than you think. We all say we want peace, right? But on whose terms do we have peace? On the Palestinians? On the Isreali's? On the United States'? On the United Nations'? More important than peace, I think, is JUSTICE. Justice first, then peace.

And the film stevey is making (Munich) IS a Jewish/Palestinian issue!!! It is primarily this for god's sake. Are we in ****ing denial?!

What's the issue over there? Can't they draw a ****ing line down the middle? Can't they share it? Can't they live in harmony? How come? Why can't the Palestines own property? Why can't they have job's? I have heard some weird **** over there; the Israeli's aren't exactly setting a good example from what I understand.

Dude. I am the masta blasta of seeing both sides.

Let's face it; this world is **** as are most people in it. All that matter's is my family.

(No really; I'm in a good mood)
