Hello all,

Spielberg is filming the movie entitled Munich...a film based on the terrorist situation of Palestinian terrorists that killed Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics in Munich.

Is this a wise decision for Spielberg? He already has the actors/actresses signed. Discuss...

I've known about this for sometime now; it's good to see it finally in production; looks like INDY 4 is being pushed back again.

So Spielberg is going to finally tell that tale of the Russians and the moronic officials ****ing over the Americans in Basketball? I wonder who is going to play Doug Collins? How many times does the American team have to win before the Russians finally score?

Ohhhhhhh; wait. Is this the story of the Israeli Team that was murdered by the 5 Arab's?

I think this can be another one of Steven's masterpieces personally and would love to see this told. I think it interesting to tell this story now considering the event's going on around the world (Terrorists, IRAQ, the Million Year Palestine and Israeli conflict; serious, is this ever going to end?)

I think Steve shines when serious. I look forward to it. A R Rating I assume.

This should be an excellent movie. I was watching a doc about the events a couple of months ago, and I actually found myself laughing at the German incompetence in dealing with the problem. If Spielberg can work all those elements in properly (and I have no doubt that he can), this will be another epic film.

I to think the Spielberg can make a great movie, but as the article says, he has made a great impact on the Jewish community with the work he does for/with them and with Schindlers list. But how can he make both groups satisfied with the events that happened? Is it worth it to do this though?

Why does he have to satisfy both groups? The Palenstines sent in 5 Arabs to execute Israeli atheletes. What's to satisfy?

I'm not trying to stri anything up but let's be realistic to what went down; it's not exactly a 'Two sides to every story' event here.

Now if we are talking about the German side of the event; yeah, they kind of screwed that whole thing up and on top of that let the captured terrorists go. I wouldn't worry about that side either; it is what it is.

He doesn't have to satisfy anyone, should of used a different word. He is going to piss someone off regardless. But the people he pisses off are probably the ones most on the edge. I agree about the story not being 'Two sides to every story' event, I am just curious to what Spielberg does. I guess if anyone could do it, with the credibility he has, he could.

No doubt it is a sticky subject Zach! It is seriously not a fun summer film I think. :P Maybe he is going for GOLD again?

The stickiness of the subject should make the film all the better if he tries to avoid political correctness. There's something about controversey and being on the edge that makes films more enjoyable.

i thought he was going to do memoirs of a Geisha. c,mon, whats going on?

Think someone else has taken that on now, Rob Marshall according to IMDB...

...but IMDB can be full of poop sometimes...

Ah, the focus is on the aftermath (the assassinations of those involved), at first glance I thought it focused on the murders of the athletes. Now that could be interesting. I know that the actual events culminated in the killing of an innocent person and that caused the halt of the entire campaign (at least that's the case based on the information I'm aware of).

And the Mossad is just flat out bad ass, even the declassified stuff is over the top and broad daylight criminal in some cases. They always walk the line of “secrecy-yet-we-want-those-we’re-after-to-know-who-did-this” complications and personify self righteousness for the greater good yada yada just like any governments’ black-ops organization (DOD, NSA, CIA, KGB, MI5, although I’ve heard that the Mossad even creep out CIA, NSA, DOD, etc operators. If the United States’ DOD looks at you and goes “Damn that was harsh” you’re creepy).

Could be cool and it will piss some people off for sure. I know that most Israeli officials will not even discuss these events even though a great deal of the information is public now.

I'm waiting for Spielberg to do the Tanya Harding story. John Williams will probably modify a lightsaber battle piece for the music.

Yeah, the cool part of the story is the Mossad's response. Kill the ****ers!!! I read a book about it in the early '80s and always thought that it would make a great flick. They did end up wasting an innocent man. Oops! Of course, fighting terrorism is frought with mistakes. I mean, they could have lied to their to their citizens and the world community, including the UN about the envolvment of a rival country, and accused this country of harboring weapons of mass destruction, which they knew where not there, to rationalize an invasion. But they didn't, I guess they have more moral fiber than other countries.

I wonder if he will follow the story to the end.

According to the documentary I saw, the Israeli's actually tracked down the terrorists who were freed and had them executed.

Of all the stories Spielberg could do, why this one?! And why now? Especially with all the hate against Arabs/Muslims/Palestinians? And wasn't there a TV movie about this already? I fear this movie is going to spread more propaganda against Palestinians. I don't know. Is he going to show BOTH sides of this story? Is he going to show what the Isrealis did to provoke this "terrorist" act?? I doubt it.

Oh ****; here we go down that windy road.....

" Is he going to show what the Isrealis did to provoke this "terrorist" act?"

Let's stop and think about that statement for a moment. Okay. Good.

What could the Isrealis possibly have done to provoke the murder of innocent atheletes? Not attack and murder say political or military targets... but atheletes? Wrestler's and Weight Lifter's? Coaches? Half these guys weren't even Israeli but Soviet Nationals, Romanian, Libyan and one guy was born in the U.S.A.

I will not presume to ever understand that conflict (how could I?) but come now. If the Palestinians wan't to bomb government and military target's so be it; but the killing of innocent women and children (and in this incident atheletes is nothing but terrorism.)

Like I said; how can I possibly try and understand? (we need to broach this conversation tactfully and stick to the facts)

Yes. A windy road indeed. I certainly don't want to go there. But let me just say that your question: "What could the Isrealis possibly have done to provoke the murder of innocent atheletes?" should be researched by everyone interested. There is an answer to this question. I know the answer, but it won't do any good posting it. Better that people find out for themselves--if they care.

So you are saying that the slaughter of innocent atheletes can have a justifiable cause? Yes, I understand the conflict, but if any group that claims to be oppressed thinks that the answer to their plight is to target innocent civilians is just showing their ignorance. The more the Palestinians kill innocent people for their "cause", the more they isolate the world community from their plight. But, off course, since the individuals that perpetrate these acts are such cowardly punk bitches, they don't care. All they want to do is to continue their status as victim and remain cowardly punk bitches.
