Spiderbrace

Is anyone here using a Spiderbrace as their DSLR shoulder-mount/stabiliser?

If so, how have your experiences been with it thus far?

I have been told that a DSLR shoulder-mount/stabiliser should consist of counter-weights at the back to remove most, if not all, jello - this is the only thing that is keeping me away from the Spiderbrace - it's lack of counter-weight.

I just bought a GH1 and I am looking for something like this........

I have the spiderbrace with both dual and single handle.

Note that my experience is with DVX and HPX, not DSLR.

For dual handle, the rig will tilt to one side when you let go of one handle and try to adjust controls such as focus or zoom. So dual handle is pretty much useless unless you do not need to adjust controls while shooting.

For single handle, it is easier for you to keep one hand on the single handle and use the other hand to adjust controls. However, this is more tiring to hold.

Spiderbrace does not really relieve fatigue. All it does is stabilize your shots.

I find myself using it less and less because it really doesn't look pro to use it. The pvc pipe material and design does not help its image. However, I must say it is really really light and hence barely add any further weight.

Another issue is that you need to remove spiderbrace before you can mount your cam to the tripod.

Having said the above, the low price doesn't hurt to try one.

I saw one at a car show.. and was like what the... I though he custom made it out of pvc.

I agree, not pro looking at all...

If it works, it works. Something does not "need" to be pro looking in order to achieve great results. Sure I would love a nice glide cam that cost $1000+ but until you can justify the cost imo you need to make due with what you can.

A good friend of mine uses a spider brace, sure it's not the best but he makes it work.

Done here

Its just an opinion...

I went with a used verizoom shoulder mount for about the same price - who said anything about a $1000 glidecam?
