SpiderBrace stabilizer?

i mean by the time you make the center coupling that holds the camera and attaches the PVC pipes.... its just not worth the effort.

65$ aint bad.

Ahhh.....but is is about the effort and saving tons of money. And I have a kick azz $14 steadicam to prove it..........hmmmm.........no...........I think I used those parts to build my 35mm adapater, but I have plenty left over to build this here brace :)

For the $65 there' charging it doesn't seem like there's much savings in spending the time to make one.

Well, no. But it's more fun building things. And a little cheaper. :)

Good idea and I'm sure I have the parts to do it.

SpiderBrace

SpiderBrace

I love this forum cuz I had never heard of the spiderbrace until someone here had mentioned then I did some internet searching got interested and I ordered on Monday and got it two days later. After first I was skeptical cuz the box was a pretty good size but it was so light I thought did they send me an empty box? I opened it up pulled the brace out and I loved the sturdiness and the wieght of it. I did some shooting with it and boy did I fall in love with. I took apart my old 130$ brace for parts and thru away the rest. All in all the spiderbrace is a very good buy. :dankk2:

plus, if you do it yourself you get the opportunity to heat pvc up to bend it...everyone loves the smell of melting pvc in tha morning, right?

sometimes i burn it as incense just to chill out...(i guess we ARE all hippies in Oregon)

:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I just got mine last week and used it on a documentary shoot during the weekend. It's great for the run and gun projects.

I've done some shooting with the spider brace and I really like it. One addition that I think would be helpful is an external mounted zoom control. I saw an old DIY in that forum. I'd like to find one a little more simple to make.

As I mentioned I love my spiderbrace and before I bought it I was looking at on my computer screen when a friend of mine looked over my shoulder and said whats that and he went on to say that I did not need that and it would be a waste of money to make a long story short I let him experience my shoulder brace and now he is buying one for his xl1. yet another closed mind opened.

wow i really may have to buy this.

here's my question.

How do you operate one of these suckers when you have a 35 mm adapter?

Is it just impossible to use anything more than a 24mm lens unless you have a follow focus?

I have a hard enough time keeping things in focus when i'm locked down and using a 52mm. I can't imagine trying to move and keep anything in focus.

I would hate to give the wrong advice cuz ive never even seen a setup like urs so im guessing u cant go wrong with both hands on the lense and everything manual. i know for me i keep my left hand under the left handle. i hope that helps.

Wow, this is an awesome piece of equipment. The PVC piping is so light it hardly adds any extra weight. It's very comfortable to hold and wear on the shoulder. Can't wait to try it with my M2 when it arrives. I might get a quick release plate for it too.

:love4:

yea the spider brace is awesome!!

I love it.

i love them because, while it does not eliminate all camera shake, makes what camera shake there is, look more like ,the caera shake yo uwould get from a Shoulder mounted Arri/bolex 16mm camera. or an ENG camera. it loosk more natural, and less like "Handycam" footage.

Oneof the itfalls of hand held footage is hand shake is eaily recognisable, where as teh shoulder shake looks less noticeable somehow.

just my observation.

But you gotta turn off the OIS.....

yup, but its more for a look, if youre going ofter smooth video, shoot with it on.

but i like the look of shoulder shot, "handheld" 24p.

you cant get the subtleties of the movement, with the OIS on, it dampens small vibrations, and bumps and jarring. But im a fan of Cinema Verite.
