First off I did a search first so ? anyway's I've been trying to figure out what to use for a stabilizer and have been checking out the different prices etc. and came across this device It's only about $70 and looks like a lower end version of the dv rig. anyone have any experience with this product?

thanks

i have it and it is awesome! pretty strong pvc piping w/ foam padding.. i purchased it based on rave reviews over at dvinfo.net. can't wait to try it w/ my hvx as soon as it comes in. imho, i can't justify paying $100's dollar more on other similar shoulder supports(excluding the dvrigpro). i say go for it.

yeah it looks like a good deal but I was hoping that someone here might have first hand experience with the product.

Mine arrived today, I bought the Spiderbrace 2. It's my first device like this. My first impression is Kick ass! It's ultra lightweight, fits like a champ, easy to mount DVX......I like it, can move, pivot, easily. It's a keeper.

I bought one, and recently had a chance to use it.
I do a lot of hand held work, and was a little apprehensive about it, thinking that it might get in the way. It was great to use. You can brace it under your arm, it helps shooting low angles. All told I thought it was pretty handy, and worth the $69. It's a good tool to use for hand held work, and helps steady shots. For that small amount, try it and you'll like it.

i gotta give a thumbs up to the spiderbrace as well! finally got to test it w/ the hvx and this thing rocks! lightweight, strong pvc piping and foam hangrips. i'm 230lbs and got easily fatigued using the hvx handheld. w/ the spiderbrace, i'm able shoot much much longer. can't wait for my zoe zoom controller to arrive. imho, why spend hundreds of dollars more on a shoulder mount if you're going to get similar results(excluding the dvrigpro)? i think it's a steal for $65!

Looks like a good deal. It also looks like it could use a little shoulder padding (easy to make yourself) for extended use.

I was thinking about something that spread the load over a wider section of the shoulder...unless it's just not shown in the photo.

shoot, i was saving for DVrig.... This is Awesome.. imma order one now!

ordered... cant wait.

Blaine...the Spider rests on the shoulder very lightly, the full control comes from the front handles. The shoulder arm has a small curve to 'hug' the shoulder....it feels great and you're in full control.

Well, it certainly looks like a good deal...and A LOT less expensive than my DV Rig Pro.

If you are shooting with the DVX100A, there's not much load to it.
The Spider Brace rear-appendage (for lack of a better term) is padded, and also curved to sit on your shoulder. The problem IMHO with the smaller cameras like this , is that they don't normally hold as steady as a heavier camera i.e. BetaSP. The spider Brace helps with that quite nicely. There's a number of tricks you can develope while using it to help steady shots. Say you want to shoot at a lower level- you can tuck the rear leg under your arm, the front legs sit on a table top for certain shots...you get the idea. It's a relatively inexpensive tool.

I was looking at the site and the brace looks nice. I was wondering if the brace had away to mount a tripod at the bottom of the brace? or maybe a tripod plate between the cam and brace for quick release of the cam to mount between brace and tripod?

Alright! PVC......did someone say PVC..... let's send this link on over to the DIY forum, they'll make us one.

For the $65 there' charging it doesn't seem like there's much savings in spending the time to make one. I haven't picked one up yet but plan on it in the next month or so.
