GH5 Speedbooster recommended?

I am renting a GH5 to evaluate it as a DSLR replacement. Is the Speedbooster recommended or native glass more reliable? Lensrentals doesn't recommend it (XL specifically). Any thoughts?

I think native glass is the best but sometimes the speedbooster can be helpful for getting a really wide angle with non-mft lenses or to increase the aperture of a non-mft lens.
For instance the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 and the 50-100 f/1.8 work great with the speedbooster and get you close to having a f/1.2 zoom lens!

Personally I would stay away from the XL and full sensor lenses, I would use the ultra with crop sensor lenses.

Yes use the Ultra on the GH5. The XL was a special Speedbooster designed to take advantage of the slightly extra crop when shooting 4k video on the GH4. The XL will work on the GH5 but since it removes a little more of the crop it can sometimes show a little too much of the edges of APS-C lenses. Even on the GH4 the XL wasn't really suggested for those shooting HD video or stills which utilized the same full portion of the sensor as the new GH5 does for everything. The XL is really designed exclusively for 4k and UHD shooting on the GH4. Anything else is use at your own risk.
