Speedbooster, firmware, fs700 problems

@Alaska (or anyone who has had problems), I'm surprised they haven't offered to just replace the Speed Booster. Have you asked for a new, replacement unit? If so, what did they say? I'm assuming since they came out around 1 year ago, they should be under warrantee. Since the firmware update they did, did not work, they should replace the defective units. If they don't, that's very poor form on the part of Metabones.

From all these posts, it's obvious certain units have problems and Metabones needs to address the issue and offer replacement units since shipping back and forth to Hong Kong is expensive, especially since the firmware update they're doing is not working.

Hi there,

Did anyone with problems check if all the contact points between the speedbooster and camera are still working properly? They are spring loaded and might get stuck, resulting in a bad contact losing power or communication with the lens on it.

I experienced this with my adapter and after pushing the contact points in a couple of times and make them pop out again, it fixed my problems losing image stabilization.

I have the V2 verstoin of smart adapter (not SB) and I've had communication issues as well. some of my lenses even had a loose connection to the adapter and they moved.
I emailed MB and they sent me a free pair of reinforcement springs. lenses are now tight in place, though still sometimes (now less often) lose communication when switching lenses so I have to
reattach them.

I have SB v.27 with v 3.0 fs700 it communicates with the camera shows the f-stop. I can manually wheel through the stops but it flashes bright white between each one. The shows of not only the screen also on the recorded video. When I hit autoiris I get a warning box stating in adequate lens function. Sounds like a bad adapter anyone have similar issues? My smart adapter works fine with the lenses.

elevated visual, sounds like you need to depress the button on the side of the SB before attaching a lens. The default mode now causes the 'opening iris' effect when changing apertures. Anyhow that was my experience...

Just received my Metabones SpeedBooster and Metabones Model II units back from HongKong with the ver.30 update and they work perfectly. It is now possible to set the default mode to Advanced, insuring that every time you turn it on it will work with iris and IS functions. Remember, there is no auto focus with metabones. Personally, I only auto-iris in the touch mode, and never leave it on.

Here's how to set 'Advanced' as your default mode.

To change the default mode,

1. Turn camera on with adaptor mounted on cam.

2. Hold down the WO button while attaching the adapter/lens, (WO button is the wide-open button at the 3 or 4 o'clock position as you look at the adaptor on the camera.

3. While still holding down the WO button, turn camera body off.

4. Detach adapter/lens.

5. Re-attach and carry on in Advanced mode till you decide you need 'Green Mode', something I have never needed on the FS700.

This has created a perfect combination for my Canon 24-105 L lens that now operates as a 2.8 true 24-105 stabilized lens.

Hey Scott,

Did you mail your Metabones back just to get the firmware update? Or did they malfunction?

You know what's strange? I have 3 Metabones, Mark I, II and Speed Booster and the IS works perfectly in Green Mode (on Mark II and Speed Booster). I'm just too lazy to switch to Advance mode every time.

Unfortunately, when they do malfunction in the way I am talking about about (loosing connection
to the lens and displaying F-- in the fstop area), a firmware update does nothing to help.

No malfunction - just tired of constantly activating 'advanced mode'. Sent in only for firmware update.
