Speedbooster and Contax Zeiss

Can anyone clarify if I can use the Canon EF > NEX Metabones Speedbooster with a Contax Zeiss Manual Focus Prime or Zoom that have cheap EOS dumb adapters already adapted for EOS (or Contax N lens converted to EOS via Conurus)

I use my Contax Zeiss lenses on the regular non speed booster metabones (Canon EF > NEX) that have the dumb EOS adapters.

OR, would I have to get a the Contax/Yashica > NEX version of the Speedbooster.

Thanks in advance.

I have an 85mm Zeiss ZF.2 prime, declicked and adapted by Duclos from Nikon to Canon EF via a Zeitax adapter. This lens works very well with the Metabones Speedbooster. The key is to get the Zeitax adapter installed on a Nikon mount lens.

The speed booster is just a lump of glass - it doesn't really care what other lump of glass sits in front of it so long as it covers full frame (otherwise you'll get vignetting) and the mount doesn't allow the back element to protrude out and hit it. Which is to say: I reckon if you can maintain infinity focus after the conversion and you can stick it on a 5D without the mirror hitting it afterwards, it should work fine. I'm going to be getting my Canon FDs converted to EF so I can use them with the speed booster (Eddie Houston reckons he can do a conversion that keeps clearance of the mirror). I'll let you guys know how it goes when I do.

Be care full with the 1.4 35 Distagon it will touch the glass from the Adapter...

Are you sure? I've used several AEG copies but none have touched my C/Y-NEX Speed Booster.

If something touches it, it'll be the metal shroud or one of the aperture levers, all of which can be removed quite easily.

Nice. My set are Contax Zeiss, which have all be retrofitted with cheap EOS dumb adapters (C/Y > EF) I have the; 28/2.8 35/3.8 50/1.4 135mm/2.8 35-70/3.4. Might just go C/Y > NEX anyway. It's $200 cheaper than the EOS>NEX- I assume because it doesn't have to control the aperture.

Sounds like a lot of folks over on this thread have had success with C/Y Contax Zeiss glass and the EF > NEX mount.

There have been some reports of the 100-300/4.5-5.6 along with the 35/1.4 touching and possibly scratching SB glass and optics- in either mount.
