Specific tapes?

I am told that the DVX100A uses a specific type of Panasonic tape and they recommend you not use any other because of the head being dry lube and other tapes having different methods. I'm looking for the AY-DVM60 and pretty much nothing else, correct?

Any tapes should be fine. Cameras aren't really made for any specific brand of tapes, although it's preferable to get good quality tapes obviously. From what I've heard, the only pressing issue when it comes to tapes clogging the heads is switching between different quality levels. That said, I'll be completely honest, I have been using PQs in my schools XH A1s (that's plural, not the S model) for my personal stuff, meanwhile we use sony premiums for school related stuff. Never had any problems, except for this one time where I popped in a sony that I later found out was about five years old. I lost about the first minute of footage that I had shot on it. Pretty much, you can use whatever you want really. You've got the AMQs, the PQs, the MQs (i think those are actually discontinued though), and the consumer lines.

This is a highly discussed issue run to the ground all over the place in these forums...

Personally, I have experienced a MAJOR shooting disaster due to the mixing of tapes, basically Sony with Panasonic.

Most will agree to simply pick one and stick with it. I have been using the Panasonic PQ for years now and love it. There is the much more expensive Master Quality, but that's your call. I've heard different theories about them, but solid sources say they're virtually the same in terms of performance, though maybe not in terms of archival quality.

Search the forums if you really are concerned....

Peace!

The original owner said he only every used "Panasonic tapes," didn't tell me a specific model. So, I guess to be safest, I should get a bunch of AY-DVM-60s?
