You need to shoot in ways that minimize the CMOS wobble. The hand-held style doesn't really work for me here because of the jello.

Definitely some shakiness, but it is nice to see a full GH1 anamorphic project. It's so hard to put a finger on exactly what it is that really makes anamorphic footage look so cinematic, but it really does have a great look when used properly - and you definitely had some nice shots in there.

I had basically decided that I was going to abandon the anamorphic path for my feature (now has a hard start date of Mar 6) - but now you've got me considering it again....hmmmmmm........

thanks for watching and commenting guys.

i understand that some people wont be huge into the hand-held choice.. i used it on certain shots that i wanted to feel restless (first half of the film.) the jello definitely presents a bit of a problem when using this approach, but im not about to let it stop me haha.
..and granted, shooting in a 15 year old car that has no suspension, a 100mm FOV and a diopter taped to the 5lbs lens is obviously not going to net you smooth footage, but hey..

and, good luck on your feature apocalypse! are you going to start a thread in the User Films section to keep us up to date on how it goes?

Very nice cinematography!

I shot the Dawn of War musicvideo mostly handheld, and the jello effect is practically nonexistant. I however shot in 720 60p, perhaps something to think about for your next project? :)

You can also introduce shake in post if you still want to shoot 1080

Otherwise, excellent video!

Nice work, Ryan.

Love the lens flare. :)

Don't know what it is but I really like these little "snippets of life" shorts.

Thanks for some nice GH1 footage and the anamorphic look.

sincerely,

ian

Thank you sir! Yes, I will/am - once I stop freaking out about it - I really don't freak out much but man, okay, so features are a lot of work...

Hmmm.

I disliked the beginning shots. The anamorphic was way too in my face, but after that I really enjoyed it. The lens is great, how much was it if you don't mind me asking. Love the shots behind her tight on the side of her face and her hat. The shots of the ocean and sky were gorgeous. Really cool. Did you CC at all? I like the look. Where do you shoot out of?

hi i really enjoyed this film. I love the birds eye view with the black dog walking...epic! Im new to hd photography and am learning to spot these problems like jello. I have to tell you though it looks pretty sweet on my 50in plasma! can you explain the anamorphic lenses used? Thanks!

Thanks for watching and posting everyone!

when you shoot with the 2x anamorphic in the 720P mode your image ends up at 864x360.. not ideal for HD finishes.. i shoot alot of my other projects in 720P mode though, is does seem to offer some jello-resilience.

lomo square fronts in PL mount seem to cost about 900-1500 or so. there was some mild CC on the outside stuff. i live and shoot in Toronto, Canada, that's Lake Ontario in the film.

can you explain the anamorphic lenses used? Thanks!
LEE

I used one 50mm 2x anamorphic prime lens; a 1973 Lomo that has been remounted to PL mount.

thanks again everyone for your comments!

a friend asked for some still grabs to use as reference for some story elements in a music video pitch. thought i'd post them here in case anyone was interested in seeing them.
