To replace a U60 it would have to interface with the camera in the same intelligent way, so I assume then this battery communicates with the camera just like a U60 and displays remaining battery information and status in the viewfinder etc

Otherwise it isn't replacing the U60, but it is an alternative power source, just like a gel cell or Vmount plate with the Sony plug on it would be.

Absolutely, Sony protects their little secret communication protocol, so the Swit battery powers the camera through a short 12V cable. The viewfinder would work the same way as when an external battery is connected - voltage based indication. The S-8U62 battery has it's own LEDs similar to the BP-U60.

Do I understand that from the same battery I could power the camera through DC Input and an external light placed on the shoe of the camera? (like an ariZoom S-2000 Dimmable On Camera Light)

Do all the wires come with the battery?

That is right. The battery comes with a cable to power the camera. The light plugs into the D-Tap on the battery. Swit makes their own LED light S-2000 with the D-Tap plug, but you do not have to use theirs. This arrangement allows for both camera and light to run on the same battery. Did you mean Varizoom? It is the same light I suspect.

We have the S-2000 LED light in stock now.

Thanks for the answer... And on the product description it's written that it's compatible with TC400-EX and TC40-EX charger. Is it compatible with the Sony BC-U1 that comes with the camera?

So Alex, this may be a dumb question but...

We need to power our Letus Ultimate 35mm adaptor. It uses a D-tap style connector.

Why would we buy your battery instead of just buying a cable to converts the Sony DC tap to a D-tap connector?

Sorry.... We want to use our Sony EX3 to power our Letus Ultimate. The Letus has a D-tap connector. The Sony has a "DC Tap"? (I don't know the correct nomenclature for the Sony DC power tap)

The end result would be using a standard Sony battery, you could just plug a cable between the EX3 "DC Tap" and the Letus "D-Tap" and you'd be all set. Right?

But I'm making a big assumption that the same plug you use to power the EX3 "DC Tap" can be used to power accessories like the Letus. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

As far as I know, the camera does not provide DC out. The DC IN on the camera is a small DC connector (page 27 manual), which can be used to power the camera with any external 12V source. The SWIT battery has it's own integrated cable to plug in into the camera socket. In addition, the battery has a D tap socket, so if Letus has a D plug at the end of it's cable, you just plug it into the battery D socket, so both the camera and Letus get their power from the same battery.
HTH

That was one of the first things I wanted to do when we finally get our EX3. Take a simple multi-meter and check to see if there is voltage at the "DC In" plug on the camera. I'm guessing that their is, but I could be wrong. If I am wrong, than your battery (the upcoming EX3 version) will look VERY attractive.

Thanks for the replies Alex.

EX3 Battery

Hi, Is the D-Tap battery available for the EX3 yet? If not, is there an estimate on when it will be available for sale?

Thanks in advance!

I was told by SWIT that it should be here any day now. We pre-ordered them, so as soon the 1st shipment comes, we will get them.

Just got a message that they are already shipped to us from CA, expect them to be here in 3-5 days. Our ordering page now shows them as available to order!
