Special make up effects?

Hello everyone! I've not a clue if this is the right place to be posting this thread, but I tried my best!I'm a young filmmaker, currently in pre-production for my debut feature film, and there's a scene included where two men are being tortured by the villains. One of the men is tied up and his hand is placed on the ground - and the villain uses a hammer to slowly go from the pinky finger to the thumb, smashing each of the fingers in with his hammer. Now, I'm no fan of gore or violence in films that shies away - if somebody is getting their fingers hammered in, I want to SEE their fingers getting hammered in! I want the scene to be as horrifying as possible, and plan to shoot the hammer hitting the fingers in full detail. Trouble is - I've no idea how to do it. That's where you guys come in!I tried the scene out in a test video, using a fake hand. The hand is nothing but air inside, like (it's hard to explain!), so when I hit it - the finger actually went in, and it did look okay. However, I'd like to try some alternatives. I'd like for there to be some blood released perhaps, or something along those lines.Anyway - hopefully you guys can help me! There's a youtube video showing how to cast a hand from foam and silicone. Finding a way to get blood and bones inside it might take some creativity, but the realistic casting is a start.

If you want to "show" it but are sensitive to your film becoming a gore-fest, consider having the hand in the foreground and the "victim" face behind it (he's on his back, his hand held down next to his face). Focus on the face, let the hand and hammer blows be soft with limited DOF. Audience gets to imagine the details, you can use a less perfect prop - and the shot is way more about the hero's reaction to the pain than about the gore.
