Excellent promo sheet for the flick!! The final dvd cover looks great.(i forgot to mention that upon seeing the vertical font, the sideways version looked better, but you had that covered)

If you're not already doing it, you have a great future in marketing.

Paul Coleman, thanks for catching the typos ... I'll get it fixed ASAP. And that's even after Larry_R telling me about Spellcheck in CS8!

Cynic821, DVD-R. Other than that, PRO packaging. I have an in-house duplicatoin business, so these will come out fully retail packaged with poly-overwrap, Thermal re-transfer DVD labels (Photo realistic, waterproof, and scratch resistent), etc. I could press them, but this way I can make low runs if needed, and since it's in house it's convenient & quicker.

Staven, thanks. Nope, not in marketing ... just outside business lending sales ... figuring the marketing & photoshop stuff out as I go, but again thank you.

yee haw! Looking forward to checking it out :)

cheers and congrats on getting the film out there to the world!

I'll post some technical stuff at the top, but it was a DVX (2 camera) shoot with Letus35 Flip Enhanced adapter(s).

HD-DVD/Blu-Ray is the wave man, but thats still great, how were the Letus Adapters to work with? Was this done specifically for the HeroFest alone, or was an extra motive involved?

Always an extra motive. I think doing something for a contest is great, but there should be more than just that if you really want to grow as a filmmaker, IMO. We knew from the start we didn't want to have just another 5-6 minute film in our hands, so we let the writer loose & we ended up with a 16 page script. Then with the dramatic moments & some other added spots, we ended up at 19+ minutes for the film, 23 total when including opening titles & ending credits (little surprise at the end).

Letus35 Flip adapters were great for DOF and ease of use during production & post (not having to flip the footage), but as you'll see in the BTS videos, we had one of them fill with water because of all the rain towers we were using & having to get right in there with the talent .... so about half the production we'd be down to one camera only.

Crazy! What made you decide on the Letus, and not a Brevis or M2 for example? Also, im very curious as to , it seems such a decent sized production, that HD wasnt chosen as the format. Its one of the questions im curious about the most, you seem professional in every way and with the advancements (HVX obviously) in the tech, it would seem like the choice to shoot on to future proof a new project.

The letus does look great though from your clips, im using an M2 with nikons on my HVX, what lenses were you using?

Sorry to turn this into an interview, LOL, just curious and always wanting to absorb info. Also waiting for my buddy to finish the online game of Madden 07' on the 360 so i can play

Well I promise you'll get some good information out of the DVD!

But, to answer your Q: We went DVX vs. HVX because we both owned (Ryan Walters, the DP - and myself) the DVX100a's. Going HVX would guarantee us down to one camera because of budget, and we were on a TIGHT shooting schedule. Even just the one HVX would cost us more, since we didn't have one ... we'd be looking at rental.

We KNOW the DVX ... didn't know the HVX and didn't want to be faced with a learning curve or more room for error on our tight timeline or on this size of production.

Getting back to cost, our systems can handle SD, but would likely choke on all the HD footage, so there would be more upgrades, or trying to find someone else to edit the film, which I knew in advance I would be doing the editing.

So really it came down to cost, and knowing the gear that we already owned.

As to why we went with the Letus vs. the M2 or Brevis. I've never tested either of those units, but we both had experience with the Letus. Also, Quyen, the guy who makes the Letus lives just outside of Portland. It's comforting to deal with someone local when you know you can drive to their place if there are any problems, no shipping issues, etc.

Lenses were Nikon AI and/or Canon FD mount ... just depended on the available light we had & the framing we wanted as to which lenses we'd be going with.

I know wat you mean about you products coming locally. Joel from hyson films is in the Bay Area and personally picked up my lens to measue for the Follow Focus, and hand delivered and set it up along with the matte box. I wish you success with this though to be able to upgrade for your next short/feature whatever it may be!

Thanks Patric ... folks are going to LOVE the BTS videos you put together.

Question Norm. I plan on buying the DVD as soon as payday comes around, but I was wondering if you're going to have the full film available for viewing online at some point? Thanks.
