Spanned clip problems using FS-100

I'm not sure what is happening, but when I try to import clips from my FS-100 firestore into FCP 5.1.2, I am getting the word "spanned" next to ONE of the clips and I'm unable to import it.

My understanding is that spanned refers to a clip that spans over two P2 cards. But I'm using the firestore drive.

The only thing I can think of is that I pressed stop on the firestore at one point during a break in recording...

Any ideas out there? It's a mystery to me.

I dont know much about the firestore, but the whole p2 thing is FAT32, so i assume its the same with the FS, as the signal comes from the HVX.

So i guess you got a clip that lasts longer then 2gig, thats when the hvx splits it up automaticly in two or more clips..!

Maybe this helps..thought this problem is solved in fcp now..!??-im sure someone else can help you on this..!

Huh. That would make sense. For some reason I guess this particular clip was damaged. I'm going to try to import it separately. Cross your fingers.

Thanks!

Spanned clips

Clips have a 2GB length limit on the HVX200. In FCP P2 Import, a "Spanned Clip" means that the clips were automatically interpreted by FCP as being one clip that was split into two by the length limit -- OR, perhaps you clicked off the record button, then clicked it on again within a 6 second period, which, if you have the 6-second Pre-Record Cache set up, would give you overlapping time-codes for your two clips. This might therefore lead FCP to think that the two clips were meant to be spanned.

In terms up "unspanning them," my guess is you'll just need to do that by subclipping them in FCP. I haven't figured out how to unspan in FCP capture.

One small correction: the limit is actually 4GB, not 2GB. However, the FS-100 splits them at no more than 2GB because of differences in their own implementation of the FAT32 file system.

Yep, That's EXACTLY what must have happened. I had the 6 second pre-record cache going and double clicked the record button.

So my new question is how to import the clip that plays just fine in the P2 importer/viewer, but refuses to import to FCP. I tried copying all the mxf and xml files related to the clip to my desktop, but can't get them to open.

Thanks again for your help on this!
