Hey AF'ers

Here are 3 spanish commercials that are airing in the Miami, Fl area, but soon to go nation wide. We shot with an AF100 straight to card, I used a few zeiss super speeds a 25, a 35 and a 50, as well as a nikkor 85 and 105

Ladder dolly, sticks, a gaffer, grip, audio guy, producers, client. was a real commercial set. We shot all 3 spots in one long 14 hour day. Enjoy. Oh and by the way, yes this is a real product, a GPS tracking device, for worried spouses, jealous husbands, concerned parents and company vehicle tracking. the device is sold through www.detectigo.com

don't mind. all criticism is welcomed. Its not perfect. i could pick it apart as well. I know the hand shot reaching in the glove box is over exposed in the highlights... and there are others, however go ahead...

Its not about picking it apart. But I feel like you guys are in serious need of a writer. It is very badly written and the actors are extremely bad. I would first work on the script, then the actors and then I would focus on the visuals. Man, the actors cant even speak the language correctly...

Just my opinion. sorry if I sounded hard.

Agreed that the acting feels kind of cheesy but then again I could sort of see one of these coming on after certain telenovelas.

Scary product!

Owaltec, Mexican spanish is definitely much different than Venezuelan, Colombian, Cuban, and Costa Rican spanish as far as "speaking the language"...

These are retail branded spots, all retail spots are a bit "cheesey" aren't they?

And yes, they are designed to come on after "telenovelas"

Im sorry, but this has nothing to do with the accent or "type" of spanish they speak... simply put, These guys are terrible actors and were poorly directed. Sorry, thats what I saw.

I thought the point of this forum was to watch AF100 footage, not to critique actors and writing, and directing. I think the spots look great. I think they do exactly what they set out to do, sell detectigos in spanish. It gives you a scenario where it can be used, becomes the resolution to the problem, then goes into the sales pitch as to what it does and how easy it is to use (with 3D gfx I might add.) point is the production value of the spots for the price. I think my team, my actors, myself as the DP/Director/Editor my writer and producer, all are very pleased with the results, and are watching google analytics track viewers every time one of these commercials air in Miami FL directly to the website. SO its working, its bringing people to the product, which is what commercials are supposed to do. Its not a film, a short film, a TV pilot, or anything else. Its a commercial. a retail commercial. period.

This is the reason I asked first if you were OK with negative comments. If you are happy with what you have, then there you go... that should do it for you. It is my understanding that people post here so they can have feedback on their productions and to me, a production includes acting and writing. Im sorry you didn´t like my comment. It was intended only as a positive feedback and with the goal of improvement. No harm intended.

As a last comment, I think saying that all infomercials are supposed to be cheesy and low quality, does not mean you have to follow on those footsteps. I think that If you do a better quality one, It will sell better. Don´t you think?

I didn't find the spots that bad. There is so much worse stuff being done. You have to remember that the majority of the people that will see these commercials won't care about script, lightning, editing, and sound. They will focus on the product and what it can do for them. The clips delivers the information one way or another, and that's the most important thing in the end.

I am not going to comment on the TVCs but I will comment on this comment.

What is presented to a viewer (prospective purchaser) becomes their perception of the product and the brand. Consiously and sub consciously. This forms their impression of both the product and brand.

Totally agree. If not, then why bother with camera quality if you can do it with a handy cam... When you see an ad that is well lit, well directed, well acted, well written and well performed in general, its exactly the perception that the client will get out of the product. You do it cheap (not saying the spots are cheap) then the product will strike as cheap to the consumer. This is why we got writers, directors, dp´s and professional actors... to do the work right!!!

wow, so I didn't do the work right? thanks owaltec. btw the client loves it. It is well lit, it is well shot, I feel its acted and directed well also, however opinions are like buttholes, everyones' got one.

Scott, I persoally think you did a good job. I also agree, if the client loves it, then that's what really matters. The flip side to this however, is Oweltec and shooter are raising valid points. This client loved it, maybe the next one may not for the very reasons they pointed out. We all can do better to raise our product value and that's what their critiques are all about. Again, I thought the spots were good, better than most local vendor tv spots.

They look ok to me as well. (I dont speak Spanish so I have no idea what they are saying but I get the drift even so.)

but... I would probably crush them down (with an s-curve)for a little more cinematic look (less lit looking) ... and I would see if there was a shot that gets you around the line crosses between dad and daughter in the first TVC.

Dont over react to comments in this forum Scott. Anyone putting up stuff here , opens themselves up a bit to responses by the very nature of forums.

thanks shooter and male_man. You guys def. make me want to step up my game. The English versions will be approached totally differently.
