South Beach at Night S-Log

Even though you don't say so, I assume the wipe shows ungraded S-LOG vs. graded S-LOG??
So what? The graded shot looks nice enough, but I guarantee I could have gotten the same thing using a regular picture profile and no S-LOG. And I wouldn't have to grade or render.
If your purpose in posting in this clip is to show what can be done with S-LOG, it doesn't convince me of anything except to show, once again, that ungraded S-LOG looks pretty ugly.
Just my 2 cents.

Sure but how much time would you spend tweaking your picture profile before you press record to make sure you will get the details in the shadows the trees are casting on the grass, and preserve the highlights and detail in the clouds and sky? Even in the end, side by side the graded SLOG footage will roll-off highlights much smoother than can be done with a custom picture profile hands down.

I wouldn't spend any time at all tweaking my picture profile just before i pressed record on this shot or any other. Only a fool would tweak a picture profile during a shoot without controlled conditions and proper scopes and charts. And besides that, there's no reason to tweak a picture profile for a specifi shot. You might not believe it, but it is not necessary to have a dozen different profiles or to adjust the paint menus for every shooting situation if you have the right settings and shooting techniques. I absolutely guarantee that I could have gotten the the same results in the shot above using my normal picture profile, no S-LOG, and no grading. It's not rocket science.

Hello Dennis,
One thing people need to know before they take any comment into account is who it is coming from. Some cameramen shoot to go straight for delivery. Cinematographers however shoot the best image for post-finishing.
Don't say that you can do in camera what you can only do in advance grading. This clip for example has different grading in different areas of the frame.
To say that you didn't need S-Log without knowing what it looks like without S-Log it's just irresponsible.
By the way Dennis, you are doing a good job with the Music Videos.
Anyway, I hope that when we share clips of things that we enjoy with members and someone shows up to say that can do better, that they don't get discourage from posting.

Nice clip DougV, I definitely need to get down to Miami sometime soon!

Are you using SLOG 444 upgrade or SLOG picture profile via v1.4 firmware? I don't know if PP works with SLOG 444 but if you need to shoot very hot sources and find you are getting chroma noise around it, in your picture profile you can change your MATRIX setting to Cinema or FL and it gets rid of it. I had this issue shooting sunset timelapses, and sometimes I see it if I get hot sources in my frame ie. light bulbs.

I just thought of mentioning it because you were shooting neon lights.
