Sound quick answer needed.

Hi I'm shooting some interviews tomorrow and have been given a tie clip Mic to use. Ain't done this before so can someone give me the correct settings on the camera for using an external mic?
If I put it into Input 1 what do I set the audio buttons on the panel for? Reading across left to right:
Ch1 Select ...?
Ch2 Select ...?
Input1 ...?
Input2 ...?

Is there anything else I need to do on the screen menu's?
Any general tips.

If you're going into Input 1- (And using a mic that has it's own power, or does not need power)
CH 1 - Input 1
CH 2 - INT(R)
Input1- Off
Input2- Off

(if you mic does need phantom power, then Input1 should be ON. - but with a LAV mic you should not need to supply power from the camera as they are usually powered by battery.)

Another tip-
Set your levels using the audio dial at the bottom. It is OK to go into the red (On the LCD). But not to max it out. You'll want 2 - 3 red bars, as this will give you a strong signal to work with. The white stops at -12db, which if you are recording at below this level is a weak signal to be working with.
