So, let me preface this thread by saying that i'm no soundman, so please excuse any incorrect assumptions (and point them out too).
I do shoot a fair bit of corporate/docu style work on my C100/C300 at the moment. (other camera's might appear anytime)
I currently run sound right into the camera when possible, using a selection of Rode NTG's and a Sennheiser wireless lav.
I sometimes use a Zoom H4n when i need sound from a long distance away from camera, or when i need sync to a DSLR 'b-cam'.
I need a mixer for 3-4 channels and a way to make a backup to memory card, and feed the C100 (or whatever cam that has dual XLR's). I'd like a Sound devices 552 or the like, but my budgets (and audio quality needs) are not up to that level. To this mind i was looking at the DR-680, but wanted to find out about taking the feed to my camera. I think i can get some kind of adaptor from the digital out, to dual XLR's and send a stereo feed to the camera.
Is this right? and robust? if so, would this not make a good cost effective option? or is there something i'm missing?
The unit would be held in a 'proper' sound bag (petrol bag) and i'm fine with running the unit from external NPF batts, as i have plenty of them.
Thanks in advance for any tips/suggestions.
