Sound of FX1

[Amorgen]

Does anyone have experience recording sound directly into the camera on the FX1, and then editing, sound sweetening, etc.? Is it acceptable despite the compression? Or should I sync sound with DAT and XLR? (just so much more work when shooting documentary interviews!!)

There is an article about this on the VASST web site comparing HDV audio to ATRAC and PCM. Bottom line, HDV (MPEG 1, Layer II) is ok for dialog but if you want to record music you need to use another device.
