Sound is skipping on my audio

I am working on FCP v 6.2.

The issue I am having concerns the audio for the ceremony of a wedding. On tape, everything is perfectly normal. Only when I bring the audio into FCP does the issue occur.

When I play the file in the viewer, or place it on the timeline and watch it on the canvas, there are certain points where the audio skips. This skipping is similar to what happens sometimes when taking an mp3 straight into FCP.

I have tried a number of different things to get rid of this issue but nothing is working. It skips no matter what compressor I use. The footage is shot in 24p, but not 24pa, so I originally had it on a 30p timeline, as it should be. I tried it on a 24p timeline and same issue.

Strangely, the file itself has no issues when I open it in quicktime straight from my drive. I even went so far as to export the audio for the file from quicktime into an .aif and then link it with the video in FCP. Same issue.

The link below will take you to an audio sample of what I am dealing with. It is a little soft and you will have to bump your audio. It's right in the middle. You can hear the audio skip and stack up on itself.

PLEASE HELP! Thanks.

I could barely hear that even with my monitor speakers turned all the way up. But I think I heard a digital sounding distortion.

I've heard that kind of sound before, from a relative's home computer. Never quite figured it out even after a new sound card. It might be a hardware / mainboard/ or even RAM issue. I'm assuming your footage is on hard drives where disk speed can not be a factor? Not to say that FCP would usually let you know about dropping frames.

That would be my first suspect. I'd try to playback/import the footage on a second system to verify.

You could try the usual troubleshooting:
Repair Permissions,
Check software updates
Repair permissions again,
delete FCP preference file, - that one might work! Ive been surprised a few times.
restart FCP.

If that doesn't work, I'd next move onto RAM. Try taking some RAM out, and see if that makes a difference. It could also be a bad RAM chip.

sounds like you have a sampling rate issue.....

if you select your music clip and hit command+9 it will tell you the sampling rate
which im betting is 44.1k

should be 48k

none of those worked

none of those worked

The sample rate for the audio clip is 48k. The sample rate for the timeline is 48k as well.

I did an audio mixdown and then full render, same issue.

I haven't starting removing RAM and I hope it does not come to that.

Anyone else got some ideas?

it almost sounds like audio drop out.
so this is originating from your camera?

but thats odd your not hearing it in quicktime.

if that IS the case- you could clean your heads & recapture.
see if it still does it.
