Sound for DSLR

I've just bought a Nikon 5100d, and I am wondering about the best way to manage sound. I still have mics and a boom from my DVX100 days, but I'm wondering if getting a digital recorder and doing 2 system sound would be better. Syncing dv is easy compared to film, so I wondering if my camera can and should take my boom. Also, no means of monitoring from the Nikon. Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be welcome.

For narrative digital film work, the 'two system' setup I think is at the moment the only way to go. For event coverage, news coverage, etc. the one box approach is 'the only way to go'... they are two different categories of activities.

Using the two system setup does require more crew. But the benefit will follow.

But then adding a 'follow focus' to your camera will most likely necessitate additional crew... add a dolly... more crew... etc. Why should upping the quality ante on sound be any different.
