Hey does anyone know where I could find the following sounds for free?

1. Blood gushing from a wound
2. The "sing" that a knife makes when it is unsheathed
3. The buzzing of flourescent overhead lights
4. The click of an Ipod wheel
5. The "ding" of an oven being pre-heated
6. A knife cutting through flesh
7. Match being struck

I think that about does it. Some of them I could try to rip from DVD's, but if anyone has a good (more legal) place to find them, I'd be very appreciative.

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong place!

Hey, Just a thought...

1.) Try making a bowl of jello. When it hardens after about 3 to 4 hours, use a large spoon and smash it around. Try to scoop a spoonful and drop it back into the bowl at about 2 feet high.

2.) Get a knife and a fork. Slide one against the other and you get that "Sling" sound.

3.) Probably one of the most recognized sounds to date. This was especially used for the sound design of the light sabers in Star Wars. One method would probably be using an XLR -> TRS or mini plug. Plug the XLR into your input of your recording interface, and start tapping on the TRS or mini plug. You'll get that buzzing sound, which might be the 60Hz hum. Even better, record the fans of your computer.

4.) Get your microphone and start recording the tapping sounds of your cellphone. Remember to press each key on your cellphone one at a time. You can then put them in repeat with adjusting attack/volume levels for each repeating click.

5.) Do you have some sort of bell that you can record off from? Probably find a nearby metal pole and use something metallic to hit against it. This will definitely make a "ding" sound.

6.) I suggest recording some sounds in your kitchen while you are cutting a piece of meat. Add a layer of "paper" by turning pages in a book or record a tearing paper sound.

7.) Sandpaper rubbing against each other.

Many different ways of doings things, but these are just a few. Not sure if you're are into audio, but probably someone can create them for you depending on how soon you want them. I don't usually recommend downloading samples of sound effects because they are limited in time and they are mostly loop based.

I agree with Alan, try messing around with sounds from scratch. Aside from being a more creative approach it is more fun and can be taylored to your needs better. Give it a shot, if it doesn't work out for you then go for the loops.

1 & 6 don't real make any sound in real life (at least none that would be heard with out a microphone), so need to figure out how you want them to sound. Usually the stab would be a hit for the impact and some combination of ripping and wet viscera sounds but thats really driven by picture.

The best advice I can give is to find someone who is into sound to work with you on this. #6 is one of those things folks ask for when they haven't done much sound post. Because it could sound like anything. Is the victim wearing clothes? What kind? Is this a big dull knife or a small sharp razor? etc etc.

The sword / knife sound is also not heard much in real life but if you look for "shing", that's the usual name for that kind of sound. Again with out knowing what it looks like it's hard to come up with a sound.

I would record most of the rest but you may be able to find them at freesound.org.

But as I have said on a number of other threads if your trying for a bigscreen movie sound it's all about layers. Pretty much all sounds are made up of a bunch of individual sounds. We did a match strike a few months ago and it involved four files. Now it was a pretty central visual and if it weren't we probably would have done it with less but the point is in a "real" movie almost everything is customized and using canned FX with out tailoring them to the picture will always sound a little off and low budget.

That said 2, 3 & 7 I have a variety of that might drop in and work.
So if you email me off list and give me more specifics about them I can send you some tracks.

Noiz2 can provide you with 2, 3, and 7
I can provide you with 4, and 5.

Like what Noiz2 mentioned, 1 and 6 are all depended on how the director wants and how the characters are acting. It will definitely work out if you provided the sound designers the footages that you want the SFX to be in. Meaning you provide them with footages that are relating to your 1 and 6 options. That way, they can get a larger sense of what it should sound like.
