Sound Devices Excellent Service!

Sound Modulator
I just wanted to give a shout out to Sound Devices... last year I noticed my Mixpre didn't always work with rechargeable batteries. Then I read that they changed the spring contacts in the battery tube since rechargeables have a smaller rise at the tip of the battery. So I called them up to buy the part and just do it myself... they wanted me to send in the unit but I assured them that I'm quite competant with electronics so they just sent out the part... I tried to pay for it, but they said "don't worry about it"... and a day or two later it arrived.

A month or so ago some yahoo was jacking with the tape return (stereo) input and managed to break it... I figure maybe the previous owner had dropped the Mixpre with a cable plugged in there or something and it was ready to snap... well I took it apart and desoldered that module from the board and tried to find a standard stereo mini-jack at some local electronics stores... but no luck... the module is board specific footprint... so once again I called Sound Devices and tried to buy the little part... and once again they said "don't worry about it"... and just sent the thing out! I got it 2 days later again!

Took me 2 minutes to put it in and have my Mixpre back together... I forgot how nice it is to run a tape return and be able to check the recording after the tape or HD... anyway... I just wanted to give a public thumb's up to Sound Devices... this company never ceases to impress me.

First thing, welcome back MATT!

Sound Devices seems like a very reliable company compared the majority out there. I just picked up a DV Promix3 including the Petrol bag that goes with it. I was deciding on whether to choose the SD302, but I didn't have enough to get it. From what everybody is saying, Sound Devices is a reputable company to do business with. With that kind of service, you won't find anywhere else! Congrats on getting the Mixpre back up and running.

Back in my Coffey Sound days, I had nothing but really good service experiences with them (which were few and far between). They take really good care of their customers, which is part of the reason why they are so successful. Plus, they are really fun guys to hang out with.

I still havent ever had anything go wrong with my SD stuff. But im glad to know they'll take good care of me - something important when you live as far away as I do!

Their service is absolutely outstanding. They have been nothing but awesome in every dealing I had with them. I ordered a cable for my 744t from a dealer who sent me the wrong one (off by one letter). When I called the dealer they did not actually have the correct cable in stock and suggested I try Sound Devices. I called them and they mailed me out the right cable for free (I sent them the wrong cable I got) that day. I asked for 2 day shipping because I needed the cable that week, they paid for the shipping too.

How can you fricking beat that service!!!! You can't...well Matt's story is just as good :)

i've always found out that you don't really know how great a company is until you have a problem and need customer service!

i love all of the sound device stuff i have and i wish they made more stuff!

i have a feeling that they might be working on a new mixer? no inside info or anything but i figure they spent a LOT of time coming up with the new recorders so maybe they are now working on mixer stuff?

i love my 442 and i miss my 302 i sold when i bought the 442.

i do wish my 442 wasn't quite so bulky/heavy

i also wish i could choose whether the direct outs were pre or post fader.

right now they are only pre-fader...

also it would be nice if they had some sort of more direct connection between the mixer and the 744t

maybe using the digital variant of the aes xlr connector to do 4 channels with just two digital xlr's?
