Sound decision? original DVX100...

Hello good people of the DVX world,

Just bought my first 'real' camera, very excited. But was it a smart purchase?

I got an original DVX100 (not the A or B model). Has 69 hours on it, Firewire out doesn't work but otherwise is supposedly in good shape. I got it for $1800.

One important question: what Panasonic miniDV tapes should i get? User manual says 'AY-DVM60'...but will newer Panasonic tapes work alright in this older model? I assume so but wanted to ask.

I welcome any thoughts about the first-edition DVX in the year '07. I know it should still take great pictures even if it's not the newest kid on the block. What do you think??

If you can ask or find out what tapes the previous owner used, use them. If not, I would run Panasonic Master Quality tapes exclusivel;y. The original DVX image is good and 69 hours are low. You should be fine. You can always add the anamorphic adapter and shoot true 16:9. I would do this when and if you can find one cheaply used. It will really help the original DVX, other than that, enjoy the cam!

I love my 100B and I use the anamorphic for landscape shots and tight spaces only, otherwise the stock lens gets me what I want.
