Sound Clipping (newb)

Another newb question no doubt

This is a grab from the FCP timeline

Im using the Sanken Cs2 shotgun into the camera

Here we see the sound has clipped at -6DB

This causes distortion in the sound even though the onscreen meters were never hitting the red

More testing

I think I did clip the original recording - but somewhere in the post workflow a 0db level shows up/gets converted to -6db in the FCP TL

Adding 6DB gain in FCP of puts my camera meters in line with the FCP meter -which I dont get but there we go

I turned the limiter on now which seems safe

(and the original interview had a lav too so is fine because that was at a lower level)

The limiter only has an effect when you are working in the manual audio mode.

The limiter seems to work well

recorded my self making some strange sound this morning - loud and I quiet - I wont put up a link!
