Sound advice needed -60db Vs -50db

Hey, not very good very the sound stuff, does anyone know anything about the difference between setting the DVX100's mic inputs on -60db versus -50db. It seems to give a boost to the sound levels but does that mean I'm losing sound quality? Is there anything else I should take into consideration? Many Thanks

I was once told to put it at 50 and i left it there eversince.

Try it on 60 - it's a good few blocks louder! Was the person who told you to put it on 50 really clever? Any idea of the difference?

According to the manual, you will get 10 dB more sensitivity on the -60dBu setting which increases the noise floor (background noise while recording).

When i use my dynamic microphone MD421 I set 60dB

not sure about his cleverness i just did what he said cuz he has been a news photog for yrs so i figured he knew more than me.
