If I don't have a PCMCIA slot in any computer of mine (his.) How can I get the material off the P2 card?

It's not showing up as a drive on the MacOSX desktop. Is there a button he's missing?

Thoughts?

Thanks

Use the camera as an external P2 reader. Plug into the Mac via firewire. Go into MCR mode, enter the menus and go to other functions and choose "1394 Device". Then hold down the mode button until the camera swaps into PC/DUB mode. At that point the camera will show up on the mac desktop as an external hard disk, and you can copy or import the contents of the P2 card from there.

I had the chance to play with an HVX200 today. When I put the P2 card into my Powerbook's PCMICA slot it never mounted. The laptop knew there was something there but i could never access it. Barry's suggestion did work but that would not be something I would want to do on a set. What am i missing? I was lead to believe that it was as simple as inseting the P2 card into the powerbook and either transfering to a hard drive or import into Final Cut.

Thanks

Edit:
Found the answer in another thread. I'm guessing a visit to:
https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/p2indexe.html\
and grabbing the driver for the Powerbook will solve my problem, yes?
No P2s around to test it anymore though.

As you found out, it is that simple, you just need to download the driver for the Powerbook. :)

Barry:

I am using a Powerbook and can download the cards fine but how do I turn all of these folders into a QT?

Dan

Use FCP and go to File->Import->Panasonic P2. Point it at one of those folders and it will import the files and convert them to QT's on your scratchdisk.

Hi Barry:

Thanks, works great.

If I am pulling off files onto my Mac G4 PB for usage on a system that uses the MXF files, like our AVID Symphony that runs on a PC, can I just pull the main folder off and store it until I hand it off to the AVID?

It won't corrupt the files for the AVID if I have them on the Mac?

Thanks,

Dan

No corruption will occur as far as I know. But remember it's not just the CONTENTS folder, you also have to copy that LASTCLIP.TXT file.

Hi Barry:

After testing, galad to report that the MXF files, when pulled off of the cards into my G4 PB and onto a small pocket FW drive, work great in the AVID Symphony.

So for, so good.
