GH2 Sorry, annoying GH2 hack questions

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions on the GH2 and hacks. I'm sure that they have already been answered, but I am searching pages and pages of threads and text and not getting anywhere...

Here's the story. After using the amazing GH13 for some time and the utter disappointment of the Scarlet, I decided to buy a GH2 back in December to shoot my new project. Anyways, I broke my leg pretty bad and was unable to film. Life's a *****.

Fast forward to now and I want to bust this thing out and get some shots.

For some reason I am getting no joy with the hacks. I can only seem to record for a few seconds before i get the warning that it has spazzed out. I have tried a bunch of different hacks, but this is the one I really wanted http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?267666-Seaquake-Slow-Motion-Burst-Patch-for-95MB-s-SDXC . I have these cards which are apparently the tits - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...DXPA_064G_A75_Extreme_Pro_64GB_SDHC_SDXC.html

I have managed to get this one working https://personal-view.com/talks/dis...mysteron-crossfire-quantum-9b-sedna-etc.../p1 , but it sure aint stable. Periodically the file will just hang and glitch, not cool.

Do I have the only GH2 that can't be hacked? Do I have Sandisk Extreme Pro's that are in actual fact carved from potato? Am I doing something mega retarded when applying this hack stuff?

Please help!

I have that card and I'm using the Sedna settings and have no problem. 9 days straight shooting hot rod power tour, hours of footage and no issues aside from some image pulsing and noise in the blacks. Try another card if you can, you might have a lemon.

Hey Mico, Thanks for the info. Could you send me a link to your setting please?

I bought two of those cards, so I'd be bummed if I had two lemons, but I'm starting to thing that might be the case!

Creative movie - 24p cinema
Film mode Smooth all settings at -2 except for sharpness which is 0
Record quality 24h
Exposure mode M
Driftwood sedna Q20 with b setting applied in ptool

I don't think you can mess up the camera using ptool its pretty fault proof if you follow the basics in the stickies here. 2 cards with the same problem does make me question the lemon theory as we all trust B&H as the place to get real cards not knockoffs that you might get on Amazon or ebay but you never know where they get theirs so the possibility exists if the camera isn't the problem that the cards might be knockoffs or are a bad batch.

I also have to add that I have slower sandisk 30 MBs cards and I have shot over a minute continuous with them without a problem with those same settings. Checked a 500MB image file in media info and it says 1920x 1080 23.976 at an overall bitrate of 103Mbps, maximum 161 Mbps using that slower card to confirm hack is working.

@Prendi If you are using the SanDisk 95MB/s 64GB and getting write errors after a few seconds with almost any setting (Mysteron Burst not included) in 24H, then there is something very wrong. You may have a lemon.

When I install the original software, everything works fine. The Driftwood Cluster 4 patch seems to be working good and I'm getting beautiful images, but i have no playback and 50% of the files are corrupt. It's really strange. I either have 2 duff cards or a duff GH2. Hmm...

I'm not missing something really obvious here am I? I mean, Mico, you've mentioned the Exposure mode and 24p cinema. If you don't shoot in these settings, does it create worm hole in a parallel universe? If so, another me is going to walk into my house right about now.

Maybe I need to go back to square one with this. Is this the most compreshensive guide to hacking the GH2 http://www.sam-mallery.com/2011/11/an-ez-guide-to-hacking-the-panasonic-gh2/ ??

I need the best setting for 720/50p and 1080 24/25p (either or). What's everyone saying is the mega-patch?

OK, So say I install the above patch, does it matter that I might not apply the setting to b and instead apply them to e?

This happened to my friend a few weeks back. How'd we fix it? We formatted his card. Worked like a charm.

Go to the camera config menu in the GH2 and choose "Format Card".

Should work. Let me know.

You don't "apply" settings to "e". You click on them to load them and then write new firmware. If you click on "e", then you're using the settings in "e", not "b". Click on "B" to load the settings and then write the new firmware, then flash. That's it.

Formatting the card isn't the problem, as I tested it a bunch of times yesterday and formatted it every test.

I'm getting variable results with the cluster 4 patch. The footage looks amazing when it's working. Like really amazing. I seem to be getting better results using AME to transcode the mts files as appose to using FCP log and transfer.

Gary or Mico, if I upload a screen video to show you what I'm doing, could you watch it and tell me if I'm doing something wrong please? Would be much appreciated :)

You should check out 5DtoRGB to transcode as well.

Sure.

If you are having stability problems, then try a lower bit-rate patch.

I've been using Driftwood's Quantum 100 patch for several months and overall it's been very reliable, though recently I found that using some electronic lenses ( Lumix 14mm f/2.5 ) and some LCD monitors ( SmallHD with flat-battery pack ) would sometimes cause my camera to drop out of record after 3-5 minutes. Disconnecting the LCD monitor, switching to AC power for the monitor, or switching to a non-electronic lens instantly fixed the problem.

I am also using the same 64GB SDXC 95MB/sec SanDisk cards.
