Sorenson Squeeze Sucks!!!

I am putting this up here for everyone since it took me much reseach to clear up a problem I was having with this compressor. One of my clients has a logo with some very thin lines on it and everytime I would animate/compress it to mpeg2 via sorenson, it would fall apart, it just couldnt handle the thin lines, I would turn out extremely pixelated. I repeatedly told my client that the thin lines were the issue and had to be fixed...mpeg2 compression just couldnt handle that. Needless to say, I was not happy with the results I was seeing but my research pointed to the fact that it was just customary for mpeg2.
That was until I did some compression tests with CinemaCraft. I compressed the same animations, with the same settings and watched them back to back and the CinemaCraft version held together beautifully. I know that you are thinking...well, CinemaCraft costs $2000, of course its going to look better. No, I did this test with their basic package that costs $58!!! I did several other test side by side with a few other situations and CC came out on top.
I know this sounds like I work for the company or something, but I don't, I am just STOKED on the fact that I fixed this problem I have been dealing with for some time now and if it helps someone else...great!!

Hey--catchy thread title. :) I've had almost uniformly excellent results from Squeeze, but encoding still has some black magic, so sometimes it takes some experimentation with other products. Just because Squeeze didn't work for you in one circumstance hardly means it sucks--period. Because it doesn't. A lot of users here routinely encode with Squeeze with great results. CinemaCraft has a good solid rep, and it obviously worked well for your project, but I'd like to see some solid test results before throwing away squeeze. Maybe you can post some comparisons with detailed setting info.

I think the only good thing about sorenson is you can do an assortment of streaming video clips at various compressions under the same job and let it run. I will post some stills of the images I was talking about when I get an opportunity, but I have been using Sorenson for years now with satisfactory results, but the fact is, satisfactory results just don't cut it for me anymore...precision is key.

I used Sorenson back before the days of H.264. I didn't like the interface but was always pleased with the output. Now I use Compressor.

SS seems to choke quite a bit if your not careful with it. It gets pretty grouchy if your not using the right source formats and stuff (what program wouldn't). Idk I used it for a long time until I just forked out 30 bucks for QT pro, and spent the dough on FCS. Its still a great program IMO but there is definetly better out there.
