Sony's newest video camcorder relaease-NXCAM

Well I am relieved to read that the camera can also record MPEG2 for all it's modes, as many NLEs issue a corrupt media error when importing AVCHD.
But still, the camera is too big for a special application where only my trusty HV20 can fit--the orchestra shell wall, as a conductor cam.
I wish Sony would develop an XDCam-lite, the size of a Canon HV20, that writes XDCam native files. This NXCam is too big and heavy for the 11" tripod that just barely fits in the nook in the orchestra shell.

Interesting camera. Sony's finally moving into the MPEG4 world. I'm sure they will come out with 1/2" and 2/3" cameras soon, maybe even with an intra-frame codec. But just when you think you've got SxS beat, they come out with a new memory card format :(

Where did you see this? The article only mentioned 1080 at 60i, 30p and 24p.

This NXCAM might be a good replacement for my XH-A1 for wedding videography. Although, I was gonna add a 7D to my gear for weddings, but I'm still not sure if I want to completely go full vDSLR with weddings just yet. Probably gonna use one for specific scenes, but then a more traditional camera would be used for the other stuff.

Main thing is I wanna get off of tape next year. I mean, if I can quite smoking, then surely I can kick my tape habit. This Sony camera looks like a possible way to do it. Although as a Canon and Panasonic man since the XL-2 and DVX days, I would love to see Canon or Panasonic compete directly with the NXCAM. Pany obviously already has the HMC150, so hopefully Canon will update the XH-A1/s and do an XH-A2 with similar specs.

If true 1080 60P, very nice. Although, all I'm seeing in the article is full raster 720/60p.

Hopefully street price will be around what the A1 and HMC150 were, about $4,000 to $3,500. Although Sony is always a little more expensive so maybe around $4,000 would be my guess. Otherwise it is not competitive with the HMC and Canon's HDV line.
