Sony's new NXCAM... AVCHD Z5?

Saw THIS THREAD about THIS ARTICLE .... SWEET!

"In HD mode, Sony’s NXCAM records H.264 in AVCHD format at a maximum bitrate of 24 megabit per second in best mode (“FX”). Fortunately, NXCAM offers full-raster 720p and full-raster 1080i/p (in addition to subsampled 1080 formats, and SD formats encoded with MPEG2). If you live the USA or other (ex-)NTSC country, this first NXCAM will start out (“off-the-shelf”) with the standard ±60Hz-derived formats:
  • Full-raster 1080 (1920x1080) at 59.94i, 29.97p (truly native), or 23.976p (truly native)
  • Subsampled 1080 (1440x1080) 59.94i
  • Full-raster 720 (1280x720) at 59.94p
  • Standard definition (720x480) at 59.94i
  • Standard definition (720x480) at 29.97p recorded over 59.94i (not native)
  • Standard definition (720x480) at 23.976p recorded over 59.94i (not native)"

Looks like an AVCHD Z5 with more options... the GPS thing looks cool too.

Bravo Barry Green, for predicting AVCHD's future over XDCam &HDV, and also guessing that Sony wouldn't release a camcorder without a record format they don't own.
As for this camcorder it looks like a nice prosumer class, not a game changer.., oh I can see the next few hundred threads titled "HMC150 or NXCam , or should I wait for the scarlet".. ;)

CMOS?

Size?

Chips?
There is a link ^^^^^^ up there, in the first post. It is a Z5 with AVCHD @ 24 Mbit/s.

It is MemoryStick too, but this is a lesser problem:

I wonder how this dual slot adapter works. Does it automatically switch from one card to another? This should be a pretty smart adapter in this case.

I presume the new cam will be noticeably sharper than the 150/170. The 150 & 170 use 960x540 and spatial offset to deliver an "effective pixel" ratio of 1440x810.

The Sony starts with 1440x810 and uses its spatial offset to generate an "effective pixel" ratio of 1920x1080. It's a clever solution and should deliver on par with an HMC40 or EX1 or HPX300 as far as raw sharpness goes. We won't truly know until we see the footage, but Adam Wilt's review was pretty complimentary about the results being on par with 1920x1080 sensors.

Got a link to his review?

TIA.

Look at the flip out Sony shoulder mount for it in this video, is it a steadi cam combo shoulder rig? Wish I could understand what he is saying. Google translator laughed at me when I said translate :)

I love that flip out thingy... unfortunately this seems to be a custom made thingy which they may never release to the public... or will they?
